Assistant Professor - Ethnic Studies: Asian American Studies (Tenure Track) Join Our Mission To Transform Lives

Overview This tenure‑track position is located in the Ethnic Studies and Social Justice Studies Department at Los Medanos Community College. The successful candidate will teach a variety of introductory Ethnic Studies courses, contribute to curriculum development, and actively participate in departmental and college service.

Responsibilities

Teach introductory courses in Asian American Studies and related disciplines, including Introduction to Ethnic Studies, Racial and Ethnic Justice Movements, and Critical Thinking in Ethnic Studies.

Develop and revise new courses, such as a forthcoming Filipinx Studies course, and support the creation of an Asian American, Pacific Islander, and Oceanic Studies academic program.

Engage in student learning assessment, curriculum review, and program improvement initiatives.

Participate in departmental, college‑wide committees, and inclusive student and faculty reception activities.

Qualifications

Doctoral degree in Asian American Studies, Ethnic Studies, or a closely related field (or expected to earn one).

Demonstrated experience teaching in face‑to‑face, hybrid, or online modalities and a commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion in the classroom.

Strong record of community engagement, activism, or community‑based research aligned with the department’s mission.

Excellent written and oral communication skills.

Benefits Office space, SEI backing, and a salary range of $68,136–$112,848 (up to $132k). Faculty benefit packages include STRS retirement, medical/dental/vision insurance, flexible spending, life and long‑term disability insurance, and an annual sabbatical leave.
