Assistant Professor – Spanish (Tenure Track) Los Medanos College invites an equity‑mindful and academically qualified faculty member to serve as Assistant Professor in Spanish and lead the department’s curricular innovation at the Pittsburg and Brentwood sites.

Responsibilities

Teach a full schedule of developmental and transfer Spanish courses as assigned.

Lead and develop the existing Spanish curriculum, including transfer degrees.

Oversee Student Learning Outcomes assessment and analysis for foreign language courses.

Maintain currency in pedagogy, promoting the vitality of the World Languages program.

Identify, evaluate, and recommend adjunct faculty for the department.

Serve on department, college, and district committees and participate in program review.

Teach in a variety of instructional settings and times, including evening, online, or off‑campus large‑group instruction as needed.

Qualifications

Master’s in Spanish, or Bachelor’s in Spanish and Master’s in another language, or equivalent.

Experience and commitment to teaching diverse student populations and integrating equity, diversity, and inclusion in all responsibilities.

Strong knowledge of the American Council of Teachers of Foreign Languages (ACTFL) and/or California Foreign Language Framework guidelines.

Experience teaching Spanish online or hybrid courses and using LMS such as Canvas or Google Classroom.

Native or near‑native fluency in Spanish and experience teaching non‑Spanish speakers.

Willingness to serve as department chair and engage in service activities.

Benefits Full‑time faculty begin Fall 2026. Salary ranges from $68 k to $112 k per year, depending on academic credentials and teaching experience. Benefits include state retirement, district health insurance, dental and vision, flexible spending plan, life and long‑term disability, employee assistance program, deferred compensation, sabbatical leave, travel assistance, retiree benefits and employee discounts. Union participation is optional.

Recruitment Timeline Initial review of applications will occur December 2025. Selected applicants will be contacted January 2026 to schedule an interview. Interviews will take place in‑person February 2026. Final interviews will be held March 2026. Applicants will be responsible for travel expenses; the college and district do not reimburse.
