For more information about the University of Chicago Booth School of Business, please visit: http://www.chicagobooth.edu/.**Job Summary**The Associate Director, Analytics Engineer supports Chicago Booth's marketing and institutional research team in building a data-driven culture by developing and maintaining robust data pipelines and analytics infrastructure. This role collaborates cross-functionally to centralize, clean, transform, and integrate data from multiple sources to unlock actionable insights that drive strategic decision-making. As a bridge between engineering, analytics, and data science, the Analytics Engineer ensures high data quality, develops comprehensive dashboards, and empowers stakeholders at all levels to leverage data effectively while adhering to privacy and security standards.**Responsibilities*** Designs, builds, and maintains automated, reliable ETL pipelines and centralized data models to support analytics and reporting needs across the institution.* Partners with internal teams and stakeholders to collect, integrate, and validate data from diverse systems, including SLATE CRM, digital analytics tools, advertising, and survey platforms, among others.* Cleans, organizes, and transforms data; performs detailed data quality assurance and proactively monitors and resolves data integrity issues.* Develops and maintains user-friendly data visualizations and executive dashboards using tools such as Tableau, custom script-based tools, or equivalent platforms.* Serves as a subject matter expert (SME) for analytics, providing training and support to team members and stakeholders on data tools and best practices.* Translates ambiguous business requirements into clear, actionable technical specifications and deliver data solutions that address organizational needs.* Builds and maintains comprehensive technical documentation covering data processes, models, and workflows to enable knowledge transfer and scalability.* Leads or participates in the design, execution, and analysis of surveys and digital marketing effectiveness studies.* Stays current with emerging trends and tools in data engineering, analytics, and digital measurement; recommends and implements process improvements.* Ensures all data handling complies with institutional data privacy, security policies, and industry best practices.* Has a deep understanding of methods to analyze complex data sets for the purpose of extracting and purposefully using applicable information. May develop and maintain infrastructure that connects data sets.* Calibrates data between large and complex research and administrative datasets. Guides and may set the operational protocols for collecting and analyzing information from the University's various internal data systems as well as from external sources.* Performs other related work as needed.**Minimum Qualifications****Education:**Minimum requirements include a college or university degree in related field.**Work Experience:**Minimum requirements include knowledge and skills developed through 5-7 years of work experience in a related job discipline.**Certifications:****---****Preferred Qualifications****Education:*** Bachelor’s degree in computer science, engineering, information systems, or a related field.* Master’s degree.**Experience:*** At least two years of experience in data engineering, analytics engineering, or a similar technical analytical role.**Technical Skills or Knowledge:*** Advanced proficiency in SQL for data transformation, analysis, and query optimization, such as window functions, debugging, and performance tuning.* Strong experience using Python or equivalent languages such as R, for data processing, transformation, and automation.* Proficiency with modern ETL, data integration, and data modeling tools such as dbt, FiveTran, and Databricks, and version control systems, specifically Git.* Demonstrated experience building and maintaining dashboards and reports in BI tools, such as Tableau.* Working knowledge of digital analytics platforms, such as Google Analytics and Adobe Analytics, and marketing data sources.* Understanding of Apache NiFi, big data platforms, particularly within Apache Hadoop ecosystem.* Supporting data users, troubleshooting technical issues, and delivering data training and documentation.**Preferred Competencies*** Work with project managers in an agile framework.* Excellent professional stakeholder communication, and presentation skills; Explain technical concepts to non-technical audiences.* Strong problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and manage multiple concurrent projects under tight deadlines.* Meet strict deadlines.* Work independently with little supervision; possess a self-motivated disposition; identify opportunities for improvement and recommend effective changes, all while achieving key objectives resulting in desired outcomes.* Commitment to continuous learning, adapting to evolving technologies, and promoting best practices in data quality and data security.* Demonstrated ability to work effectively and diplomatically with colleagues, as well as with students, faculty and others in a multitude of communication methods including in person, email, and phone.* Professional demeanor, including tact, discretion, and a customer service-oriented approach.**Working Conditions*** This position is currently expected to work a minimum three days per week in the office.**Application Documents*** Resume/CV (required)* Cover Letter (required)When applying, the document(s) **MUST** be uploaded via the **My Experience** page, in the section titled **Application Documents** of the application.**Job Family**Research**Role Impact**Individual Contributor**Scheduled** **Weekly Hours**37.5**Drug Test Required**No**Health Screen Required**No**Motor Vehicle Record Inquiry Required**No**Pay Rate Type**Salary
