Job Summary The Associate Director, Analytics Engineer supports Chicago Booth’s marketing and institutional research team by building a data‑driven culture. The role collaborates cross‑functionally to centralize, clean, transform, and integrate data from multiple sources, unlock actionable insights, develop dashboards, and empower stakeholders while adhering to privacy and security standards.

Responsibilities

Design, build, and maintain automated, reliable ETL pipelines and centralized data models to support analytics and reporting needs across the institution.

Partner with internal teams and stakeholders to collect, integrate, and validate data from diverse systems, including SLATE CRM, digital analytics tools, advertising, and survey platforms.

Cleans, organizes, and transforms data; performs detailed data quality assurance and proactively monitors and resolves data integrity issues.

Develop and maintain user-friendly data visualizations and executive dashboards using tools such as Tableau, custom script‑based tools, or equivalent platforms.

Serve as a subject matter expert (SME) for analytics, providing training and support to team members and stakeholders on data tools and best practices.

Translate ambiguous business requirements into clear, actionable technical specifications and deliver data solutions that address organizational needs.

Build and maintain comprehensive technical documentation covering data processes, models, and workflows to enable knowledge transfer and scalability.

Lead or participate in the design, execution, and analysis of surveys and digital marketing effectiveness studies.

Stay current with emerging trends and tools in data engineering, analytics, and digital measurement; recommend and implement process improvements.

Ensure all data handling complies with institutional data privacy, security policies, and industry best practices.

Has a deep understanding of methods to analyze complex data sets for the purpose of extracting and purposefully using applicable information. May develop and maintain infrastructure that connects data sets.

Calibrates data between large and complex research and administrative datasets. Guides and may set the operational protocols for collecting and analyzing information from the University’s various internal data systems as well as from external sources.

Performs other related work as needed.

Minimum Qualifications

Education: College or university degree in a related field.

Work Experience: 5‑7 years of related work experience in a related job discipline.

Preferred Qualifications

Education: Bachelor’s degree in computer science, engineering, information systems, or a related field; Master’s degree preferred.

Experience: At least two years in data engineering, analytics engineering, or a similar technical analytical role.

Technical Skills or Knowledge:

Advanced proficiency in SQL for data transformation, analysis, and query optimization.

Strong experience using Python or equivalent languages such as R for data processing, transformation, and automation.

Proficiency with modern ETL, data integration, and data modeling tools such as dbt, FiveTran, and Databricks, and version control systems, specifically Git.

Demonstrated experience building and maintaining dashboards and reports in BI tools such as Tableau.

Working knowledge of digital analytics platforms such as Google Analytics and Adobe Analytics.

Understanding of Apache NiFi, big data platforms, particularly within the Apache Hadoop ecosystem.

Supporting data users, troubleshooting technical issues, and delivering data training and documentation.

Preferred Competencies:

Work with project managers in an agile framework.

Excellent professional stakeholder communication and presentation skills; explain technical concepts to non‑technical audiences.

Strong problem‑solving skills, attention to detail, and manage multiple concurrent projects under tight deadlines.

Working Conditions

This position is currently expected to work a minimum three days per week in the office.

Pay & Benefits Salary range: $75,000 - $90,000. Exempt FLSA status. Benefits eligible: Yes.
