The Sheppard Pratt School- Rockville , is a year round, non-public special education program that serves elementary, middle, and high school students with emotional and behavioral disorders and Autism spectrum disorders. The program utilizes a therapeutic community/group model where special education and counseling are integrated within the milieu. Students are taught communication, personal accountability, problem solving, social skills, and relationship building skills through the daily group counseling sessions, social skills groups, and community meetings. Responsibilities
Be responsible for the supervision and coordination of the Individual Education Plans (IEP) process. Schedule, organize preparations, and lead IEP meetings; audit IEP documentation for quality and timeliness, and educate teaching and related services staff in the IEP process. Serve as a resource to school staff for questions and act as an effective liaison with the local school system (LSS) administration. Requires
Master's degree or master's equivalent in special education or administration Possess Maryland State Department of Education (MSDE) certification in specific subject area in secondary education or special education at time of appointment and continually during tenure in position. An applicant without current MSDE certification must be eligible to apply within 60 days of employment. Must have at least 1 year of experience in direct instruction, formal and informal assessments, learning disabilities, autism, and aligning IEP goals and objectives. Experience with individuals with autism who are low functioning/non-verbal and have severe emotional/behavioral issues strongly preferred.
