Summary Description:
The primary responsibilities include screening, evaluating, and providing appropriate services to students with communication disorders (articulation, voice, language, fluency) affecting educational performance. Responsibilities also include consulting with teachers and parents and participating in IEP team meetings. Physical Demands:
As required by the duties and responsibilities of the job. Special Requirements:
Attendance at school meetings, programs, and activities outside the instructional day as mandated by the MCEA agreement. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Ability to screen, evaluate, diagnose, and remediate communication disorders in students aged birth to twenty-one years. Ability to develop and implement goals and objectives for each student and to use therapeutic materials effectively with individuals and small groups. Strong communication and human relations skills for effective consultation with teachers and parents, and teamwork. Good writing and organizational skills for clinical reports, IEPs, IFSPs, and record-keeping. Education, Training, and Experience:
Master's degree or equivalent in speech-language pathology. Knowledge and expertise in communication disorder evaluation and therapy. Experience collaborating with related professionals and working with parents. Excellent oral and written communication skills. Certificates and Licenses:
Speech pathologists hired after October 1, 2007, must hold a Maryland DHMH license or be eligible for a provisional license. Those hired before this date may hold MSDE certification or the Maryland DHMH license. ASHA CCC or CFY eligibility is desirable.
