Job Description
Are you someone who
thrives outdoors , enjoys working with livestock and equipment, and wants to make a
hands-on impact in ecological restoration ? Do you enjoy physical work that improves the health of the land and supports responsible grazing? Are you
confident managing animals, running machinery, and adapting to field conditions
with grit and purpose?
If so, this might be the right fit for you.
About Us: MNL is a full-service ecological restoration company dedicated to Healing the Earth. Our services include native seed and plant production, shoreline construction and wetland restoration, prescribed burns, restoration grazing, vegetation management, and ecological consulting. We also support solar and infrastructure projects with pollinator-friendly practices and land stewardship expertise. One of the unique ways we deliver on that mission is through our restoration grazing program, which uses managed herds to regenerate native landscapes, control invasive species, and restore ecological function. Our team of grazing professionals works with livestock, landowners, solar sites, and natural resource partners across Minnesota to deliver high-quality land management through well-managed, responsible grazing practices.
The Opportunity: We're seeking a
Restoration Grazing Technician
to join our grazing team and help manage year-round operations. This is a hands-on role with broad responsibility for livestock care, fencing, watering systems, transport, haying, mowing, and equipment operation. You'll work closely with the Grazing Operations Manager to implement seasonal grazing plans for sheep and goats and ensure daily success across multiple active sites. From lambing season to solar site vegetation management, this role requires someone who is detail-oriented, reliable, equipment-savvy, and comfortable working outdoors in all weather conditions.
What You Will Do: Execute daily livestock care: feeding, watering, health checks, administering medications, lambing/kidding, and animal handling. Set up, maintain, and monitor electric fencing and watering systems. Load, transport, and unload livestock for restoration grazing projects. Manage winter housing and feeding operations, including breeding program tasks. Operate tractors, skid loaders, ATVs/UTVs, mowers, and related equipment for grazing, restoration, and vegetation management. Support mowing and vegetation management on solar and other restoration sites during the growing season. Perform basic maintenance and repairs on fencing, trailers, water systems, and machinery. Transport equipment and animals to/from sites as needed. Communicate with field staff and assist in training others on equipment use. Maintain daily logs, herbicide treatment records, and general work documentation. Support ecological and vegetation monitoring on active grazing projects.
What You Will Need To Be Successful: Prior experience managing livestock - especially sheep - including lambing and kidding. Field experience in ecological restoration, agriculture, landscaping, or a related industry. Proficiency in operating and maintaining restoration and livestock equipment, including pumps, sprayers, small engines, trailers, ATVs/UTVs, tractors, skid loaders, flail mowers, and forestry equipment. Comfort working independently and as part of a coordinated team. Ability to read maps, follow directions, and work across multiple sites in the state. Must have or be willing to obtain within 60 days (with company assistance):
Class A CDL with air brake and tanker endorsements. Prior CDL driving experience strongly preferred. MN commercial pesticide applicator license
Strong verbal and written communication skills Basic computer literacy for daily work logs and coordination Familiarity with ecological restoration, especially equipment-based vegetation management Training in Holistic Management or Holistic Planned Grazing strongly preferred Ability to physically lift up to 50 lbs., move continuously, and perform outdoor tasks in varying weather conditions.
MNL requires all selected applicants who accept a job offer with the company to complete a pre-employment background check and motor vehicle records (MVR) search. All hired employees are also subject to random drug testing under our zero tolerance drug & alcohol policy.
