About the Organization Founded in 1886, Thompson has grown from an orphanage into a regional organization serving the Carolinas, Florida, and expanding into Tennessee. Our continuum of care includes prevention services, foster care, and mental health. All programs are trauma‑informed and evidence‑based, building resilience in children and families (ages 0‑18) both virtually and in person. Job Responsibilities

Provide education and assistance in navigating child‑serving systems (child welfare, education, behavioral/mental health, juvenile justice, school, primary care, etc.).

Support others working with youth to understand youth culture and assist the youth in expressing needs, goals, and decisions.

Model effective behavior for youth, demonstrating healthy relationships and positive responses to stress and conflict.

Mentor 14‑21‑year‑old youth in school, home, and community settings for 90 minutes weekly (in person or virtual).

Schedule is non‑traditional, typically around 9 am‑5 pm, excluding weekends and on‑call. Mentors serve youth in Charlotte and surrounding community.

Qualifications

High school diploma/GED or Associate degree in Human Services.

1 year of experience working with adolescents (ages 14‑21).

Valid driver’s license and meet relevant credentialing, licensing, and privileging standards for the department.

Pass drug screening and extensive background check.

Starting Pay Range: $15.38‑$16.34 per hour.
