Overview Thompson was founded in 1886 as an orphanage and has grown into an organization operating across the Carolinas, Florida, Tennessee, and Kentucky. Thompson’s continuum of care encompasses prevention, mental health services, and foster care. All Thompson programs are trauma-informed and evidence-based/evidence-informed with the aim of building resilience in our clients (ages 0-18) and their families, both virtually and in person. What will you do as a Family Support Partner?

As a Family Support Partner in the Wrap Around - Charlotte department, you will provide education and assistance in navigating child-serving systems (child welfare, education, behavioral/mental health, juvenile justice, school, primary care, etc.), and support the legal guardian with gaining skill sets to complete and locate referrals.

A typical day includes providing 9-12 support mentorship to legal guardians in the school, home, and community setting for up to 90 minutes weekly in person or virtually, building relationships with guardians in the community.

Schedule is non-traditional but typically around 9 am–5 pm, excluding weekends and on-call; mentors serve youth in person or virtually in the Charlotte area and surrounding communities.

Starting Pay Range: $17-$21 hourly

Opportunities for growth

Requirements

Experience as a primary caregiver of a youth with special needs or a history of involvement in child welfare.

National certification or in the process of obtaining national certification as a Parent Support Provider.

One year of experience working with the target population OR an associate degree in the human service field and one year of experience working with children/adolescents/transition youth OR a high school diploma/GED and a minimum of five years’ experience as a primary caregiver of children/adolescents/transition age youth.

Valid Driver’s License and ability to meet credentialing, licensing, and privileging standards as required by the department.

All potential candidates must pass a drug screening and extensive background check.

Mobility in the counties served (Mecklenburg, Stanly, Union, and Cabarrus), remote work capability, and occasional office visits.
