Uncommon Schools
About Uncommon Schools
Uncommon Schools is a nonprofit network of high‑performing public charter schools dedicated to providing an exceptional K‑12 education in economically disadvantaged communities. Operating in Boston, Camden, New York City, Newark, and Rochester, we close the college completion gap and prepare every student for college and beyond. Students consistently exceed national benchmarks, and we invest deeply in educators with weekly coaching, feedback, and professional development. Director of Operations Fellow
The Director of Operations Fellow is a full‑time position that prepares you to become a Director of Operations (DOO) of an Uncommon school. Fellows work in partnership with the Principal, leading operations to ensure students receive an exemplary education. Role Overview
As a DOO Fellow you will design, implement, and refine systems that anticipate the needs of the school community. You will tackle problems, share standard methodologies across campuses, and respond to urgent needs. Fellows should expect to work in multiple locations and gradespans within the region and will engage in experiential learning activities, receive feedback, and complete deliverables that expose them to all key components of DOO work. Responsibilities
• Lead operations work at your host school, tackling school or regional‑based operations projects. • Conduct observations and analysis of operational systems. • Complete pre‑determined deliverables that expose you to all key components of DOO work. • Serve as full‑time member of the school’s operations team, acting as DOO in place of the host DOO for 4–6 weeks during immersion. Qualifications
Passionate commitment to the mission of Uncommon Schools and to improving the minds, characters, and lives of students. Strategic management and prioritization of time and tasks with a systems‑thinking lens. Ability to thrive in a fast‑paced, autonomous, and direction‑as‑needed environment. Comfort managing ambiguous situations and moving to clarity/solution. High‑quality communication and relationship‑building skills with teachers, students, families, vendors, and colleagues. Excellent computer skills (Microsoft Office, Word, Excel, Access). Dedication to self‑reflection and continual professional growth. School‑based or other educational experience preferred; experience managing others preferred. Required Experience
