This experienced MBSE Lead Systems Engineer – Level 3 or 4 role will be located in either our Morrisville, NC, or Linthicum, MD sites.
This position is 100% onsite and cannot accommodate telecommute work. This position will work a 9/80 schedule, with every other Friday off.
The ideal candidate will lead the effort to ensure the architecture is realized using MBSE. You will lead the refinement of the system’s technical baseline by mapping requirements to models, updating system design artifacts, and verifying compliance with customer requirements using industry‑standard tools and processes.
The selected candidate will work collaboratively with cross‑disciplinary teams, ensuring the successful execution of deliverables to meet program milestones.
Responsibilities
Lead the MBSE effort in the design, development, and validation of system architectures
Maturate Ground design and architecture models within Cameo to CDR‑level readiness
Create, update and mature key engineering artifacts in the model: BDD, IBD, Sequence Diagrams, Activity Diagrams, and Use Cases
Collaborate with cross‑functional teams to gather requirements and ensure requirements are mapped, aligned, and traceable to the system architecture
Develop and maintain documentation related to system architecture and model updates and support generation of reports and delivery of CDRLs related to the design products
Facilitate architecture design reviews and ensure compliance with engineering processes and standards and contribute to technical problem‑solving efforts to mitigate risks and resolve issues
Identify opportunities for process improvements within the MBSE framework
Provide guidance and mentorship to junior engineers on MBSE practices and tools
Support requirements sell‑off and provide technical input to ensure compliance with contractual obligations
This position is contingent upon clearance verification and transfer to the NG sponsored program as well as continued ability to maintain required clearance level.
Basic Qualifications
Requires an active Top‑Secret/Sensitive Compartmented Information (SCI) clearance [TS/SCI] at time of application
Level 3: (Principal level)
Bachelor’s degree in a STEM field with 5 years of professional experience (excluding internships, research projects, etc.)
Master’s degree in a STEM field with 3 years of professional experience (excluding internships, research projects, etc.)
PhD in a STEM field with 1 year of professional experience (excluding internships, research projects, etc.)
Level 4: (Senior Principal level)
Bachelor’s degree in a STEM field with 8 years of professional experience (excluding internships, research projects, etc.)
Master’s degree in a STEM field with 6 years of professional experience (excluding internships, research projects, etc.)
PhD in a STEM field with 4 years of professional experience (excluding internships, research projects, etc.)
Strong understanding of systems engineering principles and processes
Proficient in using CAMEO or other Model‑Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) tools for system modeling and architecting systems. Experience creating and updating SysML diagrams: BDD, IBD, Sequence Diagrams, Activity Diagrams, and Use Cases.
Experience with requirements analysis, decomposition and allocation
Hands‑on experience with interpreting and mapping requirements into implementable models and configurations
Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to present complex technical concepts to diverse stakeholder
Preferred Qualifications
Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to present complex technical concepts to diverse stakeholder
Systems engineering experience supporting CDR‑level design or later lifecycle phases
Experience instructing others in the use of Cameo tool
Experience with requirements verification
Experience with verification test planning
Experience with software design/development both reuse and new design

Northrop Grumman Total Rewards Primary Level Salary Range: $100,300.00 - $158,000.00
Secondary Level Salary Range: $124,900.00 - $196,700.00
The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate’s experience, education, skills and current market conditions.
Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
