JCIP is a small boutique intellectual property law firm located in Pasadena, California (Greater Los Angeles area). Our practice is heavily focused on patent and trademark prosecution, and intellectual property and technology transactions. We represent a wide range of clients from nearly every technological field and industry, from biotechnology and computer science to consumer products and food/beverages. We are seeking a highly qualified junior patent and trademark prosecution attorney to join our team. Qualifications

Active bar membership in good standing in at least one U.S. state (California preferred) Registered to practice before the United States Patent and Trademark Office An undergraduate degree in engineering (electrical, mechanical, computer science) or life sciences (biology, biochemistry, chemistry, physics) 1-3 years of experience in patent and trademark preparation and prosecution Strong academic record Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with internal teams Excellent analytical, legal writing, organizational, research, problem-solving and interpersonal skills Excellent oral and written communication skills and ability to counsel clients with respect to ongoing matters Ability to multitask, manage a large docket and meet deadlines with attention to detail in a fast-paced environment Demonstrated enthusiasm and commitment to excel, learn and develop strong legal skills Ability to take initiative, follow through on tasks, and manage time Proven ability to manage client relationships and handle complex intellectual property matters Strong interest in long-term career development and partnership opportunities Team-oriented, client-focused, and adaptable to fast-paced practice Litigation experience, knowledge of Federal and California rules of civil procedure are a plus Responsibilities

Draft and prosecute patent applications before the USPTO, including drafting initial applications, responding to Office Actions, conducting Examiner’s Interviews, and preparing petitions relating to patent prosecution Draft and prosecute trademark applications before the USPTO, including preparing initial applications, responding to Office Actions, preparing and defending trademark oppositions and cancellations before the USPTO Trademark Trial and Appeal Board, and preparing petitions relating to trademark prosecution Engage with clients and provide advice on patent and trademark prosecution strategies, portfolio management and development, and intellectual property dispute resolution strategies Conduct patentability and patent freedom-to-operate analyses Conduct trademark search on the USPTO database, trademark registrability and non-infringement analyses Draft, review, and negotiate intellectual property-related agreements Benefits
