Per Diem Position Summary
Under the general supervision of the Ultrasound Manager and Lead Ultrasound Technologist, the Ultrasound Technologist generates diagnostic sonographic images for radiologists while implementing departmental policies and procedures. The role involves performing a variety of ultrasound exams, assisting physicians during invasive procedures, maintaining equipment, and providing patient-centered care across all BMC campuses. Essential Responsibilities and Duties
Perform a wide variety of ultrasound exams as required for departmental workflow and assist physicians during sterile invasive procedures (biopsies, aspirations, thoracenteses, intraoperative procedures). Prepare exam rooms and ultrasound equipment in accordance with infection control, sterilization, and patient safety protocols. Complete exams in a timely fashion while providing quality scans for Radiology and outside departments. Ensure patient comfort and modesty at all times and assume responsibility for patient safety during the sonographic exam. Follow all departmental established and appropriate policies and procedures and set up equipment as necessary with proper patient positioning. Work across all BMC campuses and coordinately with radiologists to provide appropriate views and films, including additional views and variations as required. Maintain equipment and interact with management and vendors to maximize equipment uptime, patient care, and minimize dollar impact to the hospital. Operate all electronic systems (PACS, RIS, Epic, etc.) competently and efficiently. Ensure required documentation (requisitions, procedure completion, insurance, billing, etc.) is properly performed. Follow BMC’s RESPECT behavioral standards and hospital infection control and safety procedures. Perform other duties as assigned and remain flexible in scheduling to meet departmental needs. Qualifications
Education Associate’s degree (or equivalent from a two-year college) or certificate program in diagnostic medical sonography. Certificates, Licenses, Registrations Required American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS) certification (OB, AB, or RVT). Accreditation must be attained prior to hire except for OB/GYN (one year to obtain accreditation). Experience Experience in a related clinical area is preferred. Knowledge and Skills Knowledge of principles and procedures of ultrasound, operation and maintenance of ultrasound equipment, and excellent interpersonal and communication skills sufficient to interact effectively with patients, co‑workers, students, and physicians. Special Working Conditions
The ultrasound department requires 24/7 coverage. Staff may need to work overtime or cover other shifts beyond their own as needed. Equal Opportunity Employer
