Clinical Laboratory Technician 2 – Specimen Procurement
Job Overview
The Department of Laboratory Medicine & Pathology (DLMP) at UW Medicine invites a Clinical Laboratory Technician 2 (CLT 2) to join the Specimen Procurement Team at UW Medical Center – Montlake. The CLT 2 coordinates pre‑analytical and technical activities for DLMP send‑out testing, handles problem resolution, and maintains collaborative communication with external reference laboratories.
Key Responsibilities
Coordinate workflow for pre‑analytical and technical activities related to DLMP send‑out testing.
Prepare and ship specimens to appropriate reference laboratories, ensuring accurate labeling, documentation, and compliance with shipping regulations.
Provide specialized collection instructions for low‑volume or rare tests, including internal communication to patients when necessary.
Maintain awareness of chemicals, agents, and collection containers (e.g., Acetic Acid, 6N HCl, 6N HNO, Boric Acid) needed for preserving send‑out tests.
Manage inventory of special collection materials and ensure unexpired stock of essential tubes and kits.
Maintain files, reports, and results in an organized and accessible manner.
Monitor laboratory reports and pending log monitors to verify consistency of service and troubleshoot issues.
Support new and existing staff on reference laboratory activities and problem resolution.
Respond promptly to phone and written inquiries regarding test information, results, and related questions.
Perform CLT 1 duties as needed and as directed by the supervisor.
Adhere to all hazardous materials and dry‑ice shipping certifications.
Engage in continuous improvement initiatives and provide constructive feedback.
Required Qualifications
High‑school graduation or equivalent.
Two (2) years of chemical, clinical, or public health laboratory experience.
Completion of a phlebotomy course and MA‑P certification within 60 days of hire (or proof of certification).
Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
Desired Qualifications
Associate or bachelor's degree in science.
Experience in a major medical hospital laboratory.
Familiarity with electronic health records (EHRs) and laboratory information systems (LIS).
