Director of Financial Planning & Analysis

First United’s Director of Financial Planning & Analysis (FP&A) leads the financial planning, budgeting, forecasting, and performance analysis functions. This role is critical in supporting executive decision-making and driving financial strategy across the bank. This role requires a strong mix of skills including analytical expertise, leadership skills, and deep understanding of banking financials and KPIs. Major Duties and Responsibilities (Essential Functions)

Collaborate closely with the Executive Team to strategize and shape long-term financial outcomes for the business units, spanning a comprehensive horizon of five to ten years. Transform and elevate FP&A to high-performance industry standards by fostering a culture of strategic, innovative thinking within financial operations. Collaborate with other leaders, such as business unit leaders, risk management, operations, and human resources, to drive overall business success. Create plans, both from an operational and financial perspective, to achieve the organization’s Vision from its Strategy to drive accountability. Provide a strategic view of the enterprise and focus on big-growth drivers and performance factors. Drive change and transformation initiatives within the FP&A function and across the organization. Drive cost optimization initiatives while maintaining a strong control environment and compliance. Develop and implement capability programs to improve operational efficiency, customer satisfaction, and overall performance. Stay updated on technological innovations and their impact on the banking industry. Gain a comprehensive understanding of macro trends and organizational dynamics outside the finance silo. Continuously scan company operations, industry trends, and global factors to inform decision-making and shape the organization’s vision. Partner with all Business Unit Leaders to build out a long-term strategic plan while balancing financial objectives. Provide financial perspective on innovation and profitable growth, translating the expectations of the capital markets into internal business imperatives. Drive pricing and margin high performance by analyzing and optimizing the bank’s product and service pricing strategies. Develop integrated financial model aligning horizontal functions and vertical business lines, incorporating financial impacts of major technology initiatives from both cost and benefit perspectives into a 5-7 forecast framework. Lead the annual budgeting process, quarterly forecasting cycles, and long-term financial planning efforts. Analyze actual performance vs. budget/forecast and provide insight into key financial drivers, trends, and variances. Prepare and present monthly financial packages, dashboards, and presentations to senior leadership. Develop financial models and scenarios to evaluate business risks, and strategic opportunities. Drive efficiency in FP&A processes through system enhancements, automation, and best practices. Additional Duties And Responsibilities

Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, or related field (MBA, CPA, or CFA preferred) 10+ years of progressive experience in FP&A or corporate finance, with at least 3–5 years in the banking or financial services sector Strong understanding of banking P&L, balance sheet, capital, and regulatory reporting Proficiency in financial modeling, forecasting tools, and analytics platforms (e.g., Excel, Power BI) Well-developed leadership, communication, organization, and analytical skills. Ability to learn, analyze, interpret, and make decisions using ideas and mental constructs. Can choose a Strategy from multiple ambiguous choices and adapts to reality. Proven ability to influence cross-functional teams and drive strategic initiatives Experience leading within a matrix organizational structure and cultivating a “Team of Teams” dynamic.
