Commercial Claims Counsel
Join GEICO as a Commercial Claims Counsel to work in the Corporate Litigation and Investigations Division. You will advise the claims organization on complex commercial insurance claims, bad faith, coverage, and extra‑contractual matters.
Base Pay Range $135,300 / yr – $235,750 / yr
Primary Responsibilities
Provide legal advice to the claims organization on claims of heightened complexity, bad faith, coverage, and extra‑contractual allegations against the company.
Perform factual and legal research and analysis.
Review documents at the request of the Legal Department management.
Develop and conduct in‑house presentations on research projects.
Basic Qualifications
Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school.
Admission to practice law in at least one U.S. jurisdiction.
5‑7 years of litigation management experience at a law firm, government, or in‑house role.
Strong analytical, problem‑solving, and decision‑making skills.
Up‑to‑date understanding of key legal issues for an insurance organization.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with ability to explain complex concepts to non‑lawyers.
Proficiency in managing multiple priorities, projects, and stakeholders.
Trial and/or appellate experience.
Experience handling bad faith or extra‑contractual litigation against an insurance company.
Preferred Qualifications
Background in commercial insurance coverage and litigation.
Experience as Claims Counsel or Claims Attorney at an insurance company with expertise in commercial claims.
Experience working with cross‑functional teams, both legal and non‑legal.
Federal or State court clerkship.
Hybrid In‑Office Work Schedule 3 days per week in office required. Locations: Bethesda, MD; Cleveland, OH; New York, NY.
