GEICO is seeking a Claims Legal Counsel to join its Enterprise Litigation and Investigations Division. The ideal candidate will advise claims organizations on insurance coverage and claims-related litigation arising from personal auto insurance policies, and will identify, develop, and maintain the company’s position on claims-related litigation, bad faith claims, and other extracontractual matters. The role involves providing legal services and advice regarding high-complexity personal auto insurance claims and managing large-scale projects. The position may involve other duties as assigned. This role partners closely with other business teams and is part of a collaborative legal department. Hybrid in-office schedule: 3 days per week in office. Available locations include Chevy Chase, MD; New York, NY; or Cleveland, OH. Primary Responsibilities

Provide legal advice to the claims organization on claims of heightened complexity, bad faith, coverage, and extra-contractual allegations against the Company. Perform factual and legal research and analysis. Review documents at the request of Legal Department management. Develop and conduct in-house presentations on research projects. Basic Qualifications

Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school. Admission to practice law in at least one U.S. jurisdiction. 5–7 years of litigation management experience in a law firm, government, and/or in-house role. Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills. Up-to-date understanding of key legal issues relevant to an organization. Excellent written and verbal communication skills; ability to explain complex legal concepts to non-lawyers. Proficiency in managing multiple priorities, projects, and stakeholders. Trial and/or appellate experience. Experience as a Claims Counsel or Claims Attorney at an insurance company; experience handling bad faith or extra-contractual litigation against an insurer. Preferred Qualifications

Background in insurance coverage and litigation. Experience working with cross-functional teams, both legal and non-legal. Federal or state court clerkship. Compensation and Scheduling

Hybrid In-Office Work Schedule: 3 days per week in office. Location options include Chevy Chase, MD; New York, NY; or Cleveland, OH. Annual Salary: $135,300.00 – $260,350.00 per year. This range is a general guideline and final offer depends on scope, responsibilities, experience, education, training, work location, and market considerations.
