Senior Underwriter, Middle Markets Construction
Join our thriving Construction team! We are seeking a committed specialty construction casualty Senior Underwriter to drive growth in the Midwest region. Our team handles specialized knowledge of construction and risk management, catering to Middle Market to National Account-sized casualty construction business. As part of Liberty Mutual, you'll have the opportunity to work on primary casualty and property lines coverages, fostering underwriter judgment and local decision‑making.
Responsibilities
Risk Selection: Review, rate, underwrite, evaluate, and assess the business applying for insurance by qualifying accounts, identifying and selecting risks, determining premium, and obtaining approvals.
Agent/Broker Relationships: Build and maintain strong relationships with key agents and brokers, providing responsive service and market product knowledge.
Portfolio Management: Analyze portfolio, identify growth opportunities, and execute marketing plans to increase market share.
Documenting the Deal: Document files reflecting solid thought process, comprehensive account reviews, and referrals complying with state regulations and underwriting guidelines.
Leadership: Guide, mentor, and coach underwriters and account analysts in both technical and professional skills.
Continuous Improvement: Participate in continuous improvement activities and support team work with improvement tools.
Qualifications
Intermediate‑level knowledge of insurance products, underwriting, pricing, risk selection, market segments, and marketplace; advanced knowledge of territory management.
Ability to apply underwriting tools, systems, and resources to achieve goals, solve complex problems, and build healthy working relationships; bachelor’s degree preferred; CPCU or designations strongly preferred; 3‑10 years of experience.
