Project Engineer (Municipal Market)
Leopardo Construction – North Chicago, IL – Salary $70k‑$80k. Full‑time entry level.
Overview Leopardo Construction is looking for a Project Engineer to join our Municipal team. The role is ideal for candidates seeking to learn and build a career in a fast‑paced environment. Project Engineers will work on exciting projects while gaining exposure to all facets of the construction industry.
Responsibilities
Assist project management staff in monitoring and achieving goals relating to overhead, profit, general conditions, self‑performed trades, cost maintenance, etc.
Track critical dates and provide updates.
Obtain permits, insurance, bonds, review submittals, shop drawings, RFIs.
Coordinate and participate in pre‑construction, weekly, and post‑construction meetings; prepare minutes and follow up on open items.
Negotiate with and procure subcontractors and suppliers; generate subcontracts and purchase orders; gather monthly applications for payment.
Manage BIM documentation and clash detection.
Review LEED construction deliverables for LEED‑seeking projects.
Determine subcontractor work completed, generate monthly billings, and prepare change order documentation.
Compile as‑built drawings, warranties, O&M manuals, and closeout package.
Maintain filing and archival systems.
Estimating Support
Develop bid strategies and accurate budgets.
Review bid documents, perform quantity take‑offs, conduct walk‑throughs.
Communicate with subcontract bidders and analyze bids.
Prepare owner budget proposals and value‑engineering alternatives.
Participate in client presentations and pre‑construction turnover process.
Field Operations Support
Procure materials and assemble two‑week look‑ahead schedule.
Initiate a project safety plan; monitor EH&S initiatives.
Coordinate QC plan, review plans and specs, maintain construction documents, and ensure inspections are timely.
Generate punch list and follow up with subcontractors.
Monitor project hiring requirements and maintain payroll certifications.
Interact with clients, owner’s reps, or end users.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in construction, engineering, architecture or related field; or equivalent training and experience.
Prior industry experience as a Project Engineer or internship preferred; field and estimating experience is a plus.
Understanding of basic construction technologies, scheduling software, financial comprehension, digital model navigation, blueprints.
Awareness of project management and accounting software; Viewpoint a plus.
Valid driver’s license. OSHA 30‑hour certification; LEED GA accreditation a plus.
