Our Client, a Global Financial Services Firm, is seeking a HR Operations Specialist in their Chicago, IL location.

About the Job

We are seeking a Human Resources Operations Specialist to join a growing HR team in Chicago. This is an urgent hire due to a recent internal transition and candidate withdrawal, and the role is in its preliminary stages. The position reports to the HR Operations Manager and supports a team of 25 HR professionals. The HR Operations Specialist will be the first point of contact for Benefits and Leaves of Absence, handling sensitive employee inquiries and supporting core HR processes. The ideal candidate is a proactive, friendly, and organized professional with 2–4 years of HR experience, including internship or contract experience in HR Operations. Experience in a tech firm is a plus.

Responsibilities:

Serve as the first point of contact for employee HR inquiries, with a focus on benefits and leaves of absence.

Administer and coordinate employee benefits programs, enrollments, changes, terminations, and related reporting.

Support the administration of leaves of absence, ensuring documentation is accurate and compliant with policy and law.

Manage offboarding logistics, including exit documentation, system access changes, and final pay coordination.

Assist with onboarding and employee lifecycle activities, including promotions, transfers, and data updates.

Maintain HR records in systems (Workday experience a plus) to ensure accuracy and data integrity.

Collaborate with cross-functional HR Centers of Excellence (COEs) on HR processes and projects.

Use advanced Excel skills (V-lookups, pivot tables) for reporting, data analysis, and process improvements.

Participate in ad hoc HR projects and continuous process improvement initiatives.

Requirements:

2–4 years of experience in HR Operations, HR administration, or generalist-level support (internship + 1–2 years or recent HR contract experience acceptable).

Hands‑on experience with benefits and leaves of absence administration.

Strong Excel skills (V-lookups, pivot tables) and attention to detail.

Experience in HR systems; Workday experience is a plus.

Comfortable handling confidential information with discretion.

Excellent communication skills and a customer‑service mindset.

International HR experience is a plus but not required.
