This opportunity is open due to growth, and our client seeks sharp individuals with strong statutory reporting skill sets and hands‑on accounting experience across investment complex portfolios. Ideal candidates will come from Big 4 insurance audit backgrounds or have previous experience in public accounting.
The Role As Investment Accounting Manager, you’ll lead and support a team responsible for accounting and reporting across the company’s diversified investment portfolio— including fixed income, structured securities, common/preferred equities, derivatives, limited partnerships, and other alternative assets. You’ll partner closely with Treasury, investment managers, and auditors to drive efficiency, enhance governance, and deliver high‑quality financial insights.
Duties And Responsibilities
Serve as a subject matter expert on accounting and reporting for multi‑billion dollar investment portfolio
Manage relationships with Treasury, third‑party investment managers and external auditors
Compile and/or review footnotes and schedules for U.S. GAAP and statutory financial statements
Perform balance sheet and income statement attribution and variance analysis
Evaluate investment results and prepare and communicate analytics package to finance leaders
Research accounting and reporting guidance on new investments
Review investment portfolio and discuss with investment managers to determine if an allowance or impairment is needed
Identify, book and review manual journal entries needed for accurate financial results
Calculate and evaluate Interest Maintenance Reserve and Asset Valuation Reserve
Execute key internal financial controls to ensure accurate investment accounting results
Assist and develop junior staff on daily, monthly, and quarterly tasks
Provide reporting and supplemental information to reinsurance cedants
Support an environment of continuous improvement
What You Bring
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field. A master’s degree or relevant professional certifications (e.g., CPA, CMA) is desired.
Previous public accounting/audit experience required.
Minimum 4+ years of experience in investment accounting and financial reporting for an insurance carrier.
Thorough understanding of financial reporting standards (GAAP, STAT) and regulatory compliance.
Effective communication and presentation skills, with the ability to convey technical information to non‑technical stakeholders.
Excellent analytical and problem‑solving skills.
Integrity and ethical leadership, promoting a culture of accountability and professionalism within the team.
Proven track record in fostering a culture of continuous improvement and innovation within the team.
Strong organizational and project management abilities, with a focus on meeting deadlines and priorities.
Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., Clearwater Analytics, Workday, Oracle) and MS Excel.
