Northrop Grumman Space Systems—Launch and Missile Defense Systems invites applications for a Principal Software Engineer (BM/SRM SW Engineer) in Huntsville, AL. The role supports the U.S. President, Secretary of Defense, and combatant commanders at strategic, regional, and operational levels, providing critical software for the Command and Control, Battle Management, and Communications (C2BMC) program. This position requires on‑site work with no remote options and no relocation assistance. Travel to business needs is expected up to 10% of the time. Essential Functions

Develop software in Java for the Regional Applications Battle Management team. Provide expertise across multiple systems and software disciplines and analyze system software products. Support design, coding, benchmark testing, debugging, and documentation of programs. Collaborate with other system support groups to resolve issues, establish standards, and enhance operating system efficiency. Design, code, test, and implement tools for automating operations. Contribute to all phases of software systems programming and support lower‑level guidance where required. Basic Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in a STEM discipline (or equivalent experience) and 5 years of related experience, or Master’s degree and 3 years of related experience, or 1 year of related experience with a PhD. 9 years of related experience may be considered in lieu of a degree. Current active DoD‑issued Secret security clearance at the time of application. Willingness to travel up to 10% to support business needs. Strong preference for candidates with IAT Level II or higher DoD 8140 certification (e.g., Security+, GSEC, SCNP, SSCP, CISSP, CISA, GSE, SCNA). Certification must be obtained within 40 days of start date. Extensive Java/J2EE or other object‑oriented development experience. Knowledge of coding standards, automated testing, build pipelines, and configuration management. Problem‑solving skills and ability to review performance and operational issues. Proficiency with Maven, Git/GitHub, Nexus, and Eclipse. Experience with Agile development practices and standard system engineering design artifacts such as Use Cases and SysML diagrams. Preferred Qualifications

Experience with Agile development methodologies. Experience developing enterprise applications on Linux; Windows experience is also preferred. Experience developing command and control system applications. Experience in software integration, formal testing, and implementing Cyber Security and RMF standards. Ability to communicate complex concepts to non‑software professionals, including senior program and military leaders. Experience in performance modeling and microservices. Experience with DevSecOps and/or build management. Willingness to accept unexpected tasking and work independently in a dynamic environment. Salary

Primary Level Salary Range: $105,400.00 – $158,000.00. The salary range represents a general guideline; offsets may be considered based on scope, responsibilities, experience, education, skills, and market conditions. Benefits

Eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses reward individual contributions and company results.
