Key Responsibilities

Provide orientation to new patients and program rules, policies, procedures, and patients’ rights.

Conduct Intakes, Discharge Planning, Initial Assessments, and Initial Treatment Plans within time guidelines.

Involve patients in assessment, treatment planning, and intervention aspects of treatment.

Administer the biopsychosocial assessment at intake and on an ongoing basis.

Recognize and utilize patients’ Strengths, Needs, Ability, and Preferences (SNAP) to develop individualized Treatment Plans.

Determine the clinical necessity of counseling services based on clinical assessment and evaluation of the patients.

Monitor closely and document any change of circumstances, especially as it relates to matters that may affect recovery.

Comply with and implement Medical Q.A and Clinical Risk Management Policies, including high‑risk condition evaluation, screening tools, and referral procedures.

Provide professional counseling and referral services by addressing patients’ clinical and special needs, maintaining referrals to specialized services, providing individual and group counseling, utilizing advanced counseling techniques, scheduling regular counseling sessions, documenting counseling entries, engaging in Community Relations, attending training, collecting research data, observing urine sample collection, attending team meetings, and completing all training courses timely.

Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Associate degree in relevant field and registration/credentials necessary to provide counseling services to our patient population (Counselor I: $20‑$22/hour).

Kern County requires a bachelor’s degree or high school diploma/GED with 75% certification education.

Associate degree or majority of approved counselor certification courses, license, or certification necessary to provide counseling services (Counselor II: $22‑$25/hour).

2‑5 years of experience or Master level (Counselor III: $25‑$28/hour (Certified) & $28‑$31/hour (Licensed)).

Proof of licensure or certification by a state‑approved regulatory agency is required immediately once employed.

Preferred Experience

Prior SUD counseling experience.

Master’s or better in Psychology or related field.

Licenses & Certifications: SUDCC III/II, LPC, ACSW, LCSW, LMFT, AMFT, CADC III/II/I.
