How You Will Make History The Research & Development Scientist I role supports the Meals & Beverages Front of Funnel Innovation team. The individual will ideate and develop horizon 1 and 2 innovations for brands across the division, translating market research and customer needs into innovative product solutions from concept to final design.

What You Will Do

Project Execution (70%)

Project Planning & Management (10%)

Communication (20%)

Work with technical and business teams to identify and define product concepts and establish project objectives.

Lead the development and execution of project timelines, including contingency planning.

Leverage vendor capabilities, AI, and research new ingredients, technologies, or processes to develop unique products and accelerate time to market.

Develop prototypes to support concept and ideation exploratory work.

Formulate products for scale‑up and reformulate based on consumer direction.

Conduct trials in pilot plant or manufacturing facilities to assess manufacturing capability and consumer acceptability.

Interface product design with nutritional guidelines and cost constraints.

Collaborate with Process Development and Supply Chain to identify manufacturing needs.

Demonstrate flexibility and agility to react rapidly to changes in project scope.

Determine root‑cause problems and execute solutions effectively.

Who You Will Work With Collaborate with cross‑functional teams, including R&D brand leads, marketing, sales, and manufacturing, to align products with business objectives and customer expectations. Report to the Director of Growth Office Meals & Beverages R&D.

What You Bring To The Table (must‑haves)

Bachelor of Science in Food Science or related field with a minimum of 2 years of experience.

Knowledge of ingredients and food systems.

Knowledge of experimental design.

Basic fluency in Microsoft Office, database, and internet tools.

Good problem‑solving skills and ability to work with ambiguity.

Excellent oral and written communication and presentation skills.

Ability to travel up to 30% at headquarters, research kitchen, pilot plant, and manufacturing plants.

It Would Be Nice If You Have (preferred skills)

Master of Science in Food Science or related field with a minimum of 1 year of experience.

Experience in commercializing products or processes in a manufacturing environment.

Strong team‑player skills and ability to work effectively in a team environment.

Highly effective planning and organizing skills.

Willingness to contribute within a wide variety of areas.

Working Conditions

Significant portion of work is in the thermal production environment, exposing the employee to heat and hot food products, coolers, and freezers; personal protective equipment is required.

Ability to walk/stand for up to ¾ of the workday.

Physical ability to handle weights up to approximately thirty pounds.

Handle allergens (dairy, peanuts, tree nuts, soy, wheat, eggs, and other food ingredient chemicals and allergens) while wearing appropriate PPE.

Willingness and ability to taste and evaluate a wide range of food products and ingredients.

Compensation And Benefits The target base salary range for this full‑time, salaried position is $73,500–$105,700. Individual base pay depends on work location and other factors such as experience, job‑related skills, and education or training. Total pay may include other forms of compensation. We offer competitive health, dental, 401(k), and wellness benefits beginning on the first day of employment.
