Waterfront Design Manager – Ports & Maritime Base salary range:

$125,550 – $235,000

per year.

Jacobs is seeking an experienced Design Manager to lead a multidisciplinary project design team responsible for delivering waterfront projects in the U.S. Pacific Northwest. The Design Manager will work closely with Discipline Leads, Program Manager, and leadership to ensure deliverables are delivered on time, to expected quality, and in the most efficient manner possible.

Key Responsibilities

Provide senior design leadership for a multi‑disciplinary team of design professionals for multi‑year infrastructure projects.

Lead and mentor a multi‑disciplinary, sometimes multi‑office design team.

Coordinate with subject matter experts to inform deliverables with experienced team members.

Guide project design scoping, development, and design reviews.

Establish work plans and staffing for each project phase and assign project personnel.

Ensure project team compliance with contract agreements and exercise cost controls to implement approved design within budget restraints.

Work with internal and external Discipline Leads to ensure timely, quality design document delivery.

Manage project design schedule and program in accordance with program objectives.

Monitor design progress and proactively resolve delivery issues with program manager.

Resolve internal design conflicts and issues collaboratively with Discipline Leads, client, and subject matter experts.

Ensure the design scope meets client satisfaction while upholding Jacobs’ safety, environmental, and performance expectations.

Implement procedures for conflict resolution, design integration, constructability, and value engineering reviews.

Maintain high responsiveness among design teams to minimize delays, rework, and conflicts.

Present and communicate design progress and issues to program manager and client.

Collaborate with digital delivery, production teams (CAD, BIM, etc.) and quality manager to ensure proper procedures and guidelines.

Required Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or related field.

10–20 years of design management or delivery experience on large‑scale infrastructure projects valued $100 M+.

Experience with ports and marine terminal design and construction, particularly in seismic or arctic regions.

Knowledge of U.S. ports and marine engineering codes, including Alaska and Washington state standards.

Proven design delivery experience for transportation‑related infrastructure.

Strong understanding of project delivery methods and team building.

Excellent knowledge of design risk management.

Ability to manage multi‑disciplinary teams across multiple locations and deliver remote projects.

Preferred Qualifications

Professional Engineer registration (Alaska and/or Washington).

Experience designing or constructing bridges, administration buildings, or general site developments in seismic and arctic regions.

Willingness to travel to and from Anchorage, Alaska and consider work locations in Washington or Oregon.
