The Hartford
This role supports claims for Directors and Officers. The Hartford Global Financial Lines Directors and Officers (D&O) Claims Group is seeking a D&O claims professional.
Responsibilities
Conduct investigations and evaluate information learned.
Determine coverage, liability, and damages based upon facts of each claim.
Communicate written positions to insureds and other parties.
Set appropriate expense and indemnity reserves and monitor adjustments.
Present cases to management for reserve authority.
Develop and implement resolution strategies through negotiations.
Proactively manage litigation and counsel, including planning, execution, budgeting, and bill review.
Understand and analyze potential extra-contractual liability.
Attend trials and mediations as necessary.
Contribute to broader claim and enterprise goals by auditing, projects, training, and product development initiatives.
Prepare comprehensive reports and deliver presentations to senior claim leadership on case developments, policy issues, industry trends, etc.
Provide support and collaborate with business partners to evaluate claim trends and developments.
Address inquiries from agents and policyholders, providing superior customer service.
Provide key training and marketing support to Underwriters.
Attend and present at industry events each year on risk management and claims topics.
Qualifications
Juris Doctorate degree preferred; four-year college degree required.
Minimum of five years handling litigated Public D&O coverage and/or liability cases as defense counsel or claims handler.
Background in Public D&O or Financial Institutions and Financial Services Claims is a plus.
Candidate should be disciplined, results-oriented, and focus on bottom line results.
Knowledge and experience handling all aspects of Management Liability claims required.
Excellent oral and written communication skills.
Excellent strategic thinking and execution skills.
Excellent negotiation and advanced technical claim handling skills, including knowledge of insurance coverage issues.
Superior time, task prioritization, and desk management skills.
Ability to communicate thoughts clearly and concisely and influence and persuade others.
Team player attitude; moderate supervision acceptable.
Hybrid or Remote Work This role can have a Hybrid or Remote work arrangement. Candidates who live near one of our office locations (Hartford, CT; San Antonio, TX; Lake Mary, FL; Phoenix, AZ; Naperville, IL) will work in an office 3 days a week (Tue–Thu). Candidates who do not live near an office will work remotely with occasional office requirements as business needs arise.
Compensation Annualized base pay range: $121,280 – $181,920. Other rewards may include bonuses, long‑term incentives, and recognition.
