The Hartford Global Financial Lines Directors and Officers (D&O) Claims Group currently has an open claim professional position. As a D&O claims professional, you will be responsible for handling a caseload of claims-made, Public D&O Claims, from inception to final disposition. As these claims are often in litigation, experience handling litigated Management Liability Claims matters through resolution and managing defense counsel is required. Responsibilities
Conduct investigations and analyze and evaluate the information learned Adequately analyze and determine coverage, liability and damages based upon the facts of each claim Communicate written positions to insureds and other required parties on coverage, liability, damages and other issues Set appropriate expense and indemnity reserves and monitor for necessary adjustments Present cases to management for authority above established reserve levels Develop and implement resolution strategies through negotiations to achieve high quality outcomes Proactively manage litigation and counsel, including planning, budgeting and bill review Understand and analyze potential extra-contractual liability as needed Attend trials and mediations as necessary Contribute to broader claim and enterprise goals through audits, projects, training and product development initiatives Prepare comprehensive reports and deliver presentations to senior claim leadership on case developments and industry trends Provide support and collaborate with business partners to evaluate and address claim trends Address inquiries from agents and policyholders, delivering superior customer service Provide key training and marketing support to Underwriters Attend and present at industry events on risk management and claims topics Qualifications
Juris Doctorate degree preferred, four-year College Degree required Minimum of five years handling litigated Public D&O coverage and/or liability cases as defense counsel or claims handler Background in Public D&O or Financial Institutions and Financial Services Claims is a plus Disciplined, results-oriented and focused on bottom-line results Knowledge and experience handling all aspects of Management Liability claims Excellent oral and written communication skills Strong strategic thinking and execution skills Excellent negotiation and advanced technical claim handling skills, including knowledge of insurance coverage issues Superior time, task prioritization and desk management skills Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, and to influence and persuade others Ability to work with moderate supervision and be a team player Compensation
The listed annualized base pay range is primarily based on analysis of similar positions in the external market. Actual base pay could vary and may be above or below the listed range based on factors including but not limited to performance and demonstrated competencies. The base pay is one component of The Hartford’s total compensation package, which may include bonuses and incentives. Base pay range: $121,280 - $181,920 Location and Work Arrangement
This role can have a Hybrid or Remote work arrangement. Candidates who live near an office location (Hartford, CT; San Antonio, TX; Lake Mary, FL; Phoenix, AZ; Naperville, IL) will have an expectation of working in an office 3 days a week (Tuesday through Thursday). Candidates who do not live near an office will have a remote work arrangement, with occasional in-office needs as business arises. Equal Opportunity
