Princeton in Asia (PiA) is an independent non-profit organization affiliated with and located on campus at Princeton University in Princeton, New Jersey. PiA believes in the power of person-to-person diplomacy and works to foster mutual appreciation and cross-cultural understanding between the United States and Asia. Since 1898, we’ve placed over 3,400 people in immersive fellowships and internships in countries throughout Asia. The cross-cultural understanding developed through these posts actively and effectively builds bridges between the U.S. and Asia.

Position Overview The Alumni Engagement and Communications Coordinator will play a vital role in building and strengthening PiA’s global alumni community. This role is responsible for developing systems that ensure consistent, high-quality communication with alumni and friends of PiA, while also creating opportunities for alumni to contribute to recruitment, mentorship, events, and fundraising. The coordinator will also oversee communications platforms and publications, ensuring alumni remain informed, connected, and engaged in PiA’s mission.
The ideal candidate is a relationship-builder and strong communicator, who is comfortable working with diverse stakeholders, from recent fellows to alumni spanning decades of PiA’s history. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys storytelling, event coordination, recruiting and motivating volunteers, and fostering connections in a mission-driven community.
Compensation and Benefits This full-time, salaried position is based in Princeton, NJ, with flexible hybrid work options. The role offers an annual salary of $50,000; benefits that include a 3% retirement contribution, 401(k) plan, premium‑free health and dental insurance, paid time off (three weeks of vacation, sick days upon request, 10 holidays, two personal days), and an annual wellness stipend; and opportunities for professional development.
Key Responsibilities Alumni Engagement in Recruitment and Orientation
Collaborate with alumni to integrate their experiences and perspectives into recruitment and applicant‑facing materials.
Coordinate alumni participation in orientation and ongoing training, ensuring participants represent a diverse group spanning several decades, host countries, and professional focus areas.
Mentorship and Professional Development
Maintain and publish the PiA mentor directory annually.
Recruit alumni across generations, regions, and professional fields to lead career‑focused sessions each year for program participants.
Alumni Leadership and Events
Recruit and support alumni leaders to organize activities in key hubs.
Provide funding and resources to alumni leaders to host at least two events per chapter each year.
Support PiA leadership to develop structures for Alumni to participate in fundraising activities.
Volunteer Stewardship and Data Management Send personalized thank you messages to alumni volunteers.
Communications and Storytelling
Manage alumni‑facing communications, including a quarterly digital newsletter and the Pacific Bridges print publication, ensuring content highlights organizational priorities, alumni stories, and donor impact.
Increase social media engagement, ensuring accurate and engaging coverage of events and alumni news.
Maintain and update PiA’s website and oral history project annually to reflect the vibrancy of the community and current organizational priorities.

Relationship‑builder:
Skilled at engaging alumni and volunteers across generations, regions, and professional fields.
Strong communicator:
Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with an eye for storytelling.
Organized and detail‑oriented:
Able to track multiple projects, deadlines, and communications channels simultaneously.
Event and program manager:
Comfortable coordinating events, volunteer activities, and mentorship opportunities.
Tech‑savvy:
Familiar with digital communication tools, newsletters, social media platforms, and database systems.
Collaborative and proactive:
Works well in a small, mission‑driven team while independently driving projects forward.
Required Qualifications
2‑3 years’ experience in alumni relations, community engagement, communications, or related nonprofit work.
Excellent writing, editing, and interpersonal communication skills.
Strong organizational and project management skills.
Familiarity with digital communication platforms and social media management.
Ability to work some evenings and weekends for events.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience creating and deploying newsletters or communications campaigns.
Background in event planning, community organizing, or donor stewardship.
Knowledge of database systems (e.g., donor or volunteer tracking software).
