Reporting to the Program Director, the Hyperbaric Safety Director administers hyperbaric oxygen therapy to patients as prescribed by the Hyperbaric Provider. This position is responsible for the safe and effective operation of the hyperbaric chamber(s) and related support systems, as well as for the safe delivery of hyperbaric oxygen therapy to the hyperbaric patient. The position is also responsible for the day-to-day maintenance on the hyperbaric chamber(s) and related support systems and serves as the point person for assessment of materials that are appropriate for use in and around hyperbaric chambers.

Essential Functions/Responsibilities

Performs hyperbaric chamber operator duties, including:

Preparing, educating and orienting patients about the Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy, lifting or transferring patients per local policy, and answering questions.

Administering the hyperbaric oxygen therapy as prescribed by the Hyperbaric Provider, monitoring equipment performance and patient responses, and making appropriate adjustments.

Entering data for daily hyperbaric treatments and wound care clinic visits, maintaining complete and accurate patient records.

Operating and maintaining the hyperbaric chamber(s) and related support oxygen systems as required.

Participating in the safety program, such as conducting safety drills.

Is responsible for all hyperbaric equipment/supply and ensures safe and effective operation and maintenance of the hyperbaric chamber(s) and related systems:

Evaluating equipment and supply for safety compliance before use.

Restricting or removing hazardous items.

Coordinating with Program Director and Healogics to approve chamber upgrades, modifications, and repairs in compliance with safety standards.

Works closely with facility management personnel and medical staff to ensure smooth day-to-day operations and develops policies and procedures with senior management.

Leads hyperbaric safety program activities, including maintaining a safe environment, reviewing incidents, providing training, conducting drills, and ensuring compliance with NFPA 99.

Assists the Medical Director in documenting safety events and learning lessons.

May function as a Documentation Assistant for CMA or LPN.

Performs other duties as required.

Required Education, Experience And Credentials

High School Diploma or GED.

Current Certified Hyperbaric Technologist (CHT) or Certified Hyperbaric Specialist (CHS) certification preferred.

Completion of an approved Hyperbaric Oxygen (HBO) Safety course within the past 5 years.

Completion of an approved hyperbaric Medicine Introductory course from recognized authorities.

Current healthcare professional certification or license in the state of practice throughout employment, which may include:

Respiratory Therapist (RRT), Military Corpsman or Medical Services Specialist, EMT or Paramedic, RN, LPN, LVN, CHS, CHRN, CMA or RMA, CHT, CNA or LNA, CHWS, PT or PTA.

Or completion of Hyperbaric Training from U.S. Department of Defense.

State Variations

For Ohio, current Ohio license as RN, LPN/LVN, Respiratory Therapist or CHT, approved by NBDHMT.

Completion of an approved Introductory Hyperbaric Training Course.

Two years or more of healthcare experience preferred, with prior wound or critical care and supervisory experience.

Required Knowledge, Skills And Abilities

BLS/CPR certification, maintained throughout employment.

Triaging hyperbaric equipment and related systems.

Attention to detail, multitasking, and fast‑paced work ability.

Strong interpersonal, oral and written communication skills.

Basic math skills and organization/time‑management skills.

Problem‑solving and customer service skills, with ability to calm patients.

Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.

Physical Demands

Stationary position for extended periods (4+ hours).

Computer use for 4+ hours.

Moving around.

Lifting or moving items up to 75 pounds with assistance.

Pushing or pulling, bending/stooping, communicating.

Close, distance, and peripheral vision, reaching, grasping, touching, detecting sounds.

Work Environment

Primarily indoors and patient care environment.

Exposure to blood‑borne pathogens, toxic chemicals, flammable explosive gases.

Exposure to mechanical equipment and moving objects, electrical current.

The hourly rate for this position generally ranges between $29.03 and $36.60 Per Hour.
