The
Acute Rehabilitation Unit (ARU)
at
Kindred Hospital Houston Medical Center
is a specialized inpatient rehab program located on the hospitals fourth floor. Its designed for patients recovering from serious conditions like stroke, brain or spinal cord injury, orthopedic trauma, neurological disorders, amputation, or other complex illnesses. Intensive Therapy : Patients receive at least 15 hours of therapy per week, typically spread across five days, under the direction of a
physiatrist a doctor who specializes in rehabilitation medicine. Newly Renovated Facilities : The ARU features 11 private rooms, a modern rehab gym with advanced equipment, and dedicated spaces for dining and activities. Each room includes amenities like Wi-Fi, cable TV, private bathrooms, and guest recliners. Seamless Transition : Because its located within the hospital, patients can move directly from long-term acute care to rehabilitation without transferring to a different facility. 24/7 Nursing Support : Around-the-clock care ensures patients are supported throughout their recovery journey. Evidence-Based Approach : The ARU follows guidelines from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services and is recommended by the American Heart Association/American Stroke Association for stroke recovery.
How youll contribute
Evaluates and treats patients per medically prescribed physical therapy plans. Designs and implements individualized programs to restore function, alleviate pain, and prevent disability; provides patient/family education on injury prevention, ergonomics, and rehabilitation. Supervises physical therapist assistants, students, and aides in delivering care. Performs initial and ongoing assessments of patient condition and functional status.
Qualifications and requirements:
Education:
Bachelors Degree required (Physical Therapy). License:
Current Physical Therapy license in state of practice. Certifications:
BCLS required.
