Summary The Controller II-Job Cost is the lead person within the Job Cost department who is involved from the beginning to the end of every project for all companies, regions, and joint ventures. S/he coordinates the booking of jobs through the closing of the jobs in Vista, overseeing the assigning of job numbers, job review, and transition of jobs within Vista for all companies, regions, and joint ventures. The CJC is responsible for reporting the new work booked and tracking backlog for all companies. S/he is responsible for validating and working with operational teams to make necessary corrections to project setup and cost coding. S/he manages the month end close WIP process and reviews WIPs for all companies and joint ventures. S/he prepares job cost audit reports for financial statements and executive management.
Roles and Responsibilities
Oversees & assists with maintaining the job master files
Oversees & assists Operations with original estimates & estimate revisions
Creates training materials to assist co-workers in understanding job cost
Educates management teams on the elements of job cost and how it affects them at the job level
Uses a “help desk” approach to answer questions and find solutions to problems, which often involves interaction with other Shared Services departments
Assists managers with resolving problems or errors that have affected their reports
Oversees setting-up new companies, regions, burgs & jobs
Oversees the status changes of jobs
Creates and maintains reporting for new work booked and backlog
Oversees monthly WIP review to ensure jobs are being accounted for correctly which involves multi levels of review with Regional Controllers
Oversees monthly job cost adjustments for accuracy
Responsible for all financial audit processes including the work-papers, schedules, and other requests for information from external CPA’s
Supervises, trains, evaluates, and develops direct reports
Provides guidance, direction, coaching, and support to direct reports to maximize individual and overall department performance
Takes appropriate action to develop direct reports including, but not limited to, preparing, and monitoring professional development plans, promotions, demotions, lateral moves, corrective action, and progressive discipline
Reviews and recommends, as appropriate, that direct reports receive timely and appropriate compensation
Requirements
Bachelor’s degree from four-year college or university in Accounting or Finance; and 10 years of related experience
Construction industry experience required
Understanding of all elements of Job Cost, including labor, materials, and overhead
Working knowledge of Unions, Prevailing Wage, Certified Payroll, EEO Reporting, Multi-state Payroll Tax, Tax Exemption, Multi-state Sales Tax, OCIP/CCIP, Lien Rights, Project Funding, and International Project Structures, etc
Proficiency in Microsoft software programs. Advanced Excel skills required including pivot tables and lookups
Vista experience required
