Job Summary
Join our centralized ambulatory pharmacy team where your expertise makes a meaningful impact. As a Clinical Staff Pharmacist, you’ll ensure safe and effective medication use by reviewing prescriptions, maintaining accurate patient profiles, and checking for drug interactions, duplications, and allergies. You’ll collaborate closely with specialty clinics, specialty pharmacy, and medication access teams—so prior experience in specialty pharmacy is preferred. A key part of your role will involve working within the Multi-Step Order Transmittal (MSOT) queue, where precision and efficiency are essential. You’ll also evaluate prior authorization requests, interpret clinical data, and work with healthcare providers to support coverage decisions and the appeals process. Beyond daily tasks, you’ll contribute to initiatives that improve care coordination and patient outcomes. Experience and Education
One (1) year with experience in a hospital setting required for an inpatient position; 1 year retail experience for retail position preferred. Bachelor of Science (BS) degree or Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) degree required. Eligible for licensure by Texas State Board of Pharmacy (TSBP) is required and Texas license with TSBP within 30 days of hire. Sterile compounding (IV) certification accredited by ACPE. Basic Life Support (BLS) certification with course accredited by the American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross (ARC) required by start date. Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) with course accredited by the American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross (ARC) will be required for inpatient positions prior to or within 6 months of employment. Job Duties
Perform job responsibilities in accordance with organizational and departmental policies, procedures, performance improvement objectives and environmental/infection control standards as well as state and federal laws and regulations. Perform all computer order entry in an accurate, thorough and timely manner. Review/update medication profiles (therapies, allergies, height, weight, etc.) and be cognizant of patient charges. Review medication orders for therapeutic appropriateness, duplications, interactions, overall effectiveness and safety. Seek clarification if necessary and document interventions (i.e., ADR). Consistently work (multi-tasks) and problem solve independently and effectively with minimal supervision. Take charge when necessary and be looked to for direction. Make the right decisions and use good judgement. Be cross trained and multifunctional maintaining competency in multiple areas. Enforce the formulary system and follow departmental policy and procedure when acquisition of non-formulary product is judged necessary. Participate in cost effective use and selection of pharmaceuticals. Communicate drug information (verbally and in writing) to physicians, nurses, etc. in a courteous and professional manner. Assist in patient/family education and counseling regarding drug therapy and side effects. Effectively document clinical activities, demonstrating cost savings and concisely convey key information required for follow-up by fellow pharmacists. Strive to improve patient satisfaction, as measured by Press Ganey scores. Location
