HVAC INSPECTOR - LOCATION: LOS ANGELES, CA
Minimum of five years of full-time, paid experience in the installation or repair of mechanical equipment for heating, air-conditioning, or refrigeration
ICC as M2 Inspector (must show proof)
CAL OSHA 10 hour
Technical Knowledge: strong understanding of HVAC systems, sheet metal fabrication, mechanical code provisions, and inspection practices; ability to interpret technical drawings, plans, and specifications
Regulatory Familiarity: Knowledge of EPA Section 608 refrigerant certification requirements and HVAC safety or energy‑efficiency standards
Analytical & Communication Skills: Keen attention to detail, effective written report preparation, and strong judgment in recognizing safety and compliance issues
Physical Capacity: Ability to perform field inspections, which may include climbing, accessing confined spaces, and walking across construction sites
Preferred Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, or a related field
Certification such as EPA Section 608 universal technician or equivalent HVAC inspection credentials
Prior experience working in public sector infrastructure, commercial construction, or within port environments
Familiarity with Port of Los Angeles or City of Los Angeles civil service requirements and processes
Key Responsibilities
Inspect heating, ventilation, air‑conditioning, and refrigeration installations to ensure compliance with applicable laws, approved plans/specifications, and mechanical codes
Evaluate sheet metal and ductwork installations for conformance to project requirements and safety standards
Enforce compliance with local and state HVAC codes, OSHA/CAL‑OSHA regulations, and environmental standards (including refrigerant handling as per EPA Section 608)
Document inspection outcomes, prepare reports detailing any code violations or non‑conformance, and recommend corrective actions to project teams
Provide technical guidance or training to junior or trainee inspection staff as needed
Collaborate with contractors, engineers, and port staff to ensure timely resolution of inspection findings
Assist in ensuring safe field practices and work environments, identifying hazards and enforcing health/safety requirements
