Job Overview
Total Safety is looking for a
Fire Alarm Systems Designer
to join their safety conscious team. The designer will use Computer Aided Design (CAD) software under direct supervision of senior designers to generate submittal, construction drawings, detail drawings, fire alarm system calculations, system operating sequences, and equipment lists for review by authorities. The role also involves participating in project meetings and interfacing with both internal and external customers. Responsibilities
Create detailed drawings using AutoCAD. Perform calculations as required by codes and/or manufacturer instructions. Select components to meet customer needs, specifications, and for industrial applications. Work closely with the Total Safety engineering staff, Construction Manager, Project Managers, Sales, and other disciplined engineers and designers. Design a basic fire alarm system with little or no supervision. Assist others as needed. Qualifications
At least five years of experience in fire alarm system inspections, testing and installation in oil refinery or related industrial applications. Prefer knowledge of Notifier’s Onyx series fire alarm panels and their components. AutoCAD experience required. Must be able to acquire and maintain licenses and certifications necessary to perform assigned responsibilities. Must be able to travel. Must be able to obtain TWIC (Transportation Worker Identification Credentials) card and pass any required safety testing, including classes such as Basic Plus, OSHA 10 hour, etc. Working Environment
Combination of office, shop, indoor and outdoor industrial environments. May be frequently exposed to cold, hot, wet, humid, outside weather conditions and vibration. Works in customer environment. May be exposed to high pressure, chemicals, and traffic. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. Educational Requirements
Two-year certificate from college or technical school in related coursework or bachelor’s degree preferred. State of Texas issued FAL (Fire Alarm License) and NICET Level II or higher certification in fire alarm systems required with an expectation to pursue further professional development by obtaining additional NICET accreditation and/or state licensing.
