Position Overview The Chief Engineer has the supervisory responsibility for the safe overall operation, maintenance, and repair of all mechanical, electrical, and environmental systems of assigned equipment and personnel.

District Overview Weeks Marine is a full-service marine contractor operating across North America. The company offers a wide range of specialty marine construction solutions, operating in transportation, power, water/wastewater, mining, building, industrial, and oil, gas, and chemical markets. Integrated with 135 years of construction and engineering experience, Weeks Marine provides holistic solutions unmatched in the industry.

Location The role is based in Louisiana but the employee can reside anywhere throughout the Gulf Coast or Eastern Seaboard. The position works on a 21‑day on / 21‑day off schedule.

Responsibilities

Ensures vessel and operational compliance with company policies and applicable regulatory agencies.

Manages requisition of spare parts, fuel, lubrication oils, and other materials needed for safe engine room operation.

Communicates with Port Engineer regarding vessel repairs and maintenance.

Completes Job Safety Analysis (JSA) and Activity Hazard Analysis (AHA).

Keeps payroll records of engine room crew and reviews performance.

Assigns engine room personnel to perform regular maintenance and repairs on pumps, motors, diesel engines, and other equipment.

Supervises repairs to ensure conformity with specifications and standards.

Maintains accurate records to create engine room logs, inventories, and maintenance history.

Tracks and orders fuel, oil, and water.

Determines maintenance priorities.

Performs other duties as assigned by the Technical Group.

Qualifications

5+ years of hopper dredge and/or qualified engine room experience preferred.

Ability to work 84‑hour work week and live aboard vessel for full rotation.

Willingness and ability to travel as required.

Proficient in standard office software packages.

Supervisory experience preferred.

Fluent use of oral and written English; understands hand signals.

Required Certifications or Licenses

Driver’s license.

Merchant Mariner Credential (preferred).

May work at various different locations and conditions may vary.
