Overview The Center for Applied Legal Studies (CALS) at Georgetown Law invites applications for its 2026‑2028 Clinical Teaching Fellowship. The fellowship is a two‑year teaching position (July 2026‑June 2028) that provides a lawyer with the opportunity to design and teach clinical classes, supervise students’ representation of immigration clients, and conduct independent scholarship to publish a law‑review article. Fellows are enrolled in Georgetown’s LL.M. program, receive a full tuition waiver, and are awarded an annual stipend of $70 000 (first year) and $75 000 (second year). Fellows will earn an LL.M. (Advocacy) with distinction upon completion.
Responsibilities
Collaborate with faculty to design and teach clinical courses in immigration law.
Supervise law students in representing clients in immigration court and asylum adjudications.
Select, evaluate, and grade student work.
Administer clinic operations and manage cases not handled by students during each semester.
Conduct independent legal scholarship and produce a publishable law‑review article.
Attend weekly courses focused on clinical teaching, pedagogy, and academic scholarship.
Participate in faculty meetings and support the clinic’s strategic goals.
Qualifications
Member of a state bar at the start of the fellowship.
Minimum two years of practice experience in immigration removal or asylum cases.
Preference for candidates with extensive experience representing asylum applicants in immigration court.
Strong commitment to teaching and a scholarly agenda.
