Overview

Carole Robertson Center for Learning is hiring for the Early Learning Site Director role. The position implements and manages center-based Infant/Toddler and Preschool direct service programs and related support services/activities at the assigned facility. Base pay range

$85,000.00 - $95,000.00 Responsibilities

Program Planning and Implementation: Ensure the implementation of all program activities for the assigned facility, including daily developmentally appropriate curriculum components, field trips, special events, enrichment programs, and other activities as assigned. Enrollment and attendance: Maintain full enrollment through collaboration with the enrollment team (ERSEA) per the allocated Head Start slots and maintain 90% monthly attendance of enrolled children in collaboration with the family support team (FSS). Collaboration and governance: Work with committees, the policy group, and the governing body by sharing data, solving problems, and implementing policies and plans. Encourage family involvement in program decision making and support their participation (e.g., transportation, training, meeting times). Parent engagement: Conduct regular parent meetings and issue monthly written communications regarding curriculum plans, program policies, and news. Plan field trips and activities in response to family needs. Program development and data use: Collaborate with program leadership to develop meaningful program plans and analyze results from data sources (e.g., PIR, program self-assessment, community assessments, monitoring reports, child outcomes). Staff engagement: Secure staff buy-in to program goals and conduct weekly staff meetings with follow-up. Align center-based practices, systems, and services with senior director guidance. Program Monitoring and Compliance

Manage program-specific funding contracts or portions thereof and prepare for quarterly/annual eligibility audits and monitoring visits (DFSS, DCFS, federal, NAEYC) as required by funding sources. Ensure agency compliance with contractual and audit requirements for assigned 0-5 site components. Generate monthly reports on program enrollment, attendance, CACFP meal counts, and in-kind/volunteer contributions. Assist in family eligibility determination in collaboration with ERSEA. Requirements

Ensure a healthy, safe, and friendly environment for children, youth, and parents in accordance with licensing and funder requirements and agency policies. This includes: Staff/child ratio compliance and presence of qualified site management staff Accurate records for children and staff files Accurate records for equipment, supplies, and physical facilities in line with statutes and regulations Collaborate with Facilities and Operations for site upkeep and with Food Service to ensure licensing and sanitation compliance. Conduct daily program environment walkthroughs and submit maintenance requests as needed. Staff Management

Oversee program teaching and support staff and the assistant director, including reflective supervision, evaluation, mentorship, and coaching. Maintain staffing structures that support the program’s mission and goals, ensuring a qualified workforce and appropriate staffing ratios. Lead site-based orientation, monitor progress of new staff, and promote staff development and performance improvement. Resource Management

Exercise prudent stewardship of program resources within budgets and applicable requirements. Manage monthly program budgets and advocate for resources to improve program quality during planning and budget development. Contribute to the development and maintenance of a safe, well-equipped program environment, including purchasing materials and monitoring equipment and facilities. Observation, Analysis, Planning, and Documentation

Maintain accurate, timely, and well-organized records across child, family, financial, and program areas as required by federal, state, and program standards. Monitor staff performance through observation, record review, stakeholder feedback, and documentation of results. Promote effective use of program data by developing and sharing reports with decision makers. Communication

Communicate the program’s philosophy, mission, and services to staff, families, and the community; support staff in doing the same. Demonstrate respectful, objective, and non-judgmental communication; tailor communication for different audiences. Facilitate acceptance of decisions from funders, governance bodies, and committees through clear rationale and open addressing of questions. Professionalism/Leadership

Promote lifelong learning, stay current with best practices in Early Childhood Education, and model sound professional behavior. Provide ongoing feedback, support staff development, and advocate for high-quality services at multiple levels. Maintain confidentiality and professional affiliations; represent the agency in external professional networks. Lead by example in engagement with families and communities and stay aligned with the program’s mission and goals. Collaboration

Work with other site directors to ensure consistency in programmatic and operational protocols; partner with team leads to ensure high-quality practices and outcomes. Receive guidance from P&I senior leadership to improve program efficiency; maintain active engagement with the Center’s leadership circle. Perform other duties as assigned and adhere to licensing and funding requirements as specified (Head Start, DFSS, DCFS, health requirements, and NAEYC/ExceleRate Illinois standards). Qualifications

Applicants must possess a master’s degree in early childhood education/child development, Education, or a related field. Degrees in other fields must include at least 36 credits in ECE/Child Development; five (5) years of progressively complex program management/supervisory experience; and Illinois Director Credential level 2 or above. Additional requirements include: Physical demands: occasional lifting up to 25 lbs; frequent sitting, standing, bending or stooping; ability to attend to children’s needs Professional experience: 5 years of progressively complex program management/supervisory experience; demonstrated finance, planning, operations, and administrative skills; strong leadership and communication abilities Benefits
