Bay Cove Human Services’ mission is to partner with people to overcome challenges and realize personal potential. Bay Cove pursues this mission by providing individualized and compassionate services to people facing the challenges associated with developmental disabilities, mental illness, substance use disorders, and homelessness at more than 175 program sites throughout Greater Boston and southeastern Massachusetts.
The Benefits and Wellness Manager is responsible for the design, implementation, and administration of the organization’s employee benefits and wellness programs. This role ensures that benefits and wellness initiatives align with our mission and shows a strong commitment to the wellbeing of our employees. The Manager will oversee all benefits operations, regulatory compliance, and vendor relationships, while also leading initiatives that promote a healthy, engaged, and resilient workforce.
This is an exempt position and hybrid with 2 days onsite.
Essential Functions of the Position Benefits Administration
Manage health, dental, vision, COBRA, FSA, HRA, life insurance, and other supplemental benefit programs.
Conduct open enrollment, benefits fairs, and new hire orientations, ensuring employees understand and utilize their benefits effectively.
Negotiate renewals, enrollments, and pricing with carriers to maintain competitive, cost‑effective plans.
Maintain and update benefits and related information on internal platforms and the employee intranet.
Provide cost projections, utilization reports, and trend analyses to executive leadership.
Reconcile and submit benefit invoices for payment in a timely manner.
Develop and oversee regular plan audits to ensure accuracy, compliance, and efficiency.
Ensure organizational compliance with all applicable federal and state laws (COBRA, ERISA, ACA, etc.).
Maintain up‑to‑date Summary Plan Descriptions and ensure all employee communications are clear and compliant.
Vendor and Program Management
Manage multiple vendor relationships, monitoring performance, quality, and service delivery.
Evaluate and propose benefit enhancements and innovations to improve employee satisfaction and retention.
Stay current on regulatory and market trends to mitigate risk and maintain competitive programs.
Wellness Program Leadership
Develop, implement, and oversee a comprehensive employee wellness strategy aligned with organizational mission and culture.
Coordinate wellness initiatives such as health screenings, mental health awareness events, fitness challenges, and educational sessions on nutrition, stress management, and financial wellbeing.
Partner with HR, Safety, and Communications teams to integrate wellness into the employee experience—from onboarding through career development.
Use data and employee feedback to evaluate program impact and continuously improve offerings.
Promote a culture of wellbeing, balance, and inclusion that supports both individual and organizational health.
Professional Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree required (Human Resources, Business, or related field preferred).
CEBS, SHRM, or PHR certification a plus.
5–7 years of progressive experience in benefits administration; wellness program experience strongly preferred.
Strong understanding of benefit compliance and regulations (COBRA, ADA, Section 125, ACA, ERISA).
Excellent interpersonal, communication, and presentation skills, with the ability to engage staff at all levels.
Strong analytical, problem‑solving, and vendor negotiation skills.
Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, Google Workspace, and Excel; experience with HRIS and benefits platforms preferred.
