Job Summary
We are looking for a senior finance leader to provide strategic financial leadership for Barrow Neurological Foundation’s long‑term sustainability and growth. The Senior Director of Philanthropy Operations and Finance reports directly to the Foundation President and partners with the Board of Trustees, Women’s Board, Barrow Neurological Institute leadership, and key external constituents to ensure strong financial planning, oversight, and decision‑making across all philanthropic activities.
Key Responsibilities
Partner with the President, Board of Trustees, and BNI leadership on strategic financial planning, decision support, and long‑term sustainability.
Lead development of annual operating budgets, forecasts, and long‑term financial plans; oversee FTE planning and quarterly reporting to Finance and Investment Committee, Executive Committee, and the Board.
Provide comprehensive oversight of accounting, tax matters, and financial reporting, including monthly financials, balance sheets, statements of activities, pledge summaries, tax returns, and endowment reporting.
Oversee all financial aspects of NeuroTrials, including funding, reporting, pledge and construction tracking, preparation of board materials, and collaboration with external partners.
Support the NeuroTrials Board with meetings, board packets, financial statements, and minutes.
Ensure strong financial controls, audit readiness, and compliance across foundations; coordinate annual audit processes and completion of IRS Form 990.
Provide financial support for the Finance & Investment Committee.
Manage Grants Committee activities, including grant cycle processes, speaker series, and timely reporting to donors.
Collaborate with the outside investment firm on portfolio performance and transactions.
Partner with the Women’s Board to monitor financial performance, budgeting, and strategic resource allocation.
Monitor financial performance, identify risks, and recommend corrective actions.
Drive efficiency and cost savings through system contracting and alignment with CommonSpirit policies.
Direct special projects related to strategic growth and financial performance improvement.
Minimum Education and Experience
Master’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or related field (or equivalent experience).
Minimum of seven (7) years of total experience in philanthropy accounting/finance.
Five (5) years in a senior management role.
Demonstrated accomplishments in strategic and operational issues.
Experience facilitating progressive organizational change in a growing organization.
Preferred Skills and Licensure
CPA
Senior CFO experience
Investment experience
Knowledge of nonprofit and public charity rules and regulations
Proficiency in Google Workspace
General ledger accounting systems
CRM and Lawson experience
