This company is a newly established portfolio company backed by a reputable private equity firm. The company provides generator and electrical services in the Eastern US. They will be expanding rapidly through organic growth and through acquisitions.
THE POSITION The VP Accounting will facilitate the scalability of the business by playing a leadership role in financial and operational control; financial systems management; budgeting and planning; financial reporting; working capital and cash flow management; audit; taxes and supporting corporate development activities, including strategic acquisitions. The ideal candidate will have proven experience as a controller or accounting/finance manager in a senior role, preferably at a rapidly growing middle market company or division of a larger enterprise. He/she must have a detailed understanding of financial and operating metrics and the levers that drive profitability. The VP Accounting must be effective working through others on his/her team as well as with the CEO.
VP Accounting role is fully remote, with a preference for candidates based in Eastern or Central time zones.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Leads the development of financial policies, practices and procedures. Implements, monitors and interprets established financial policies, practices and procedures. Ensures financial policies and procedures adhere to generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) and standards.
Displays a strong understanding of purchase price accounting for potential future transactions.
Deliver timely and accurate accounting, budgeting and financial reports/statements. Conduct research and prepare financial analyses. Recommend solutions to complex accounting and budget problems.
Oversee the accounting department to ensure proper maintenance of all accounting systems. Continuously review and assesses processes, systems, and recommends and implements actions to improve efficiency, strengthen internal controls.
Ensure the integrity of all general ledger account balances and the effective integration of subsidiary ledgers; determine the need for new accounts and manage requests for new accounts; manage revisions in account structures, new types of ledgers, revisions in the reporting system, changes in the use of accounts, and new account classifications or definitions.
Analyze the period end financial statements and supporting data, prepare financial and management reports.
Facilitate the external audit. Monitors internal policies, procedures, and controls.
Provide the necessary information to the outside tax preparers for the preparation of the tax returns for all entities.
Provides effective cash management for the organization, including management of daily cash requirements.
YEAR ONE KEY SUCCESS FACTORS The VP Accounting will be responsible for and evaluated regarding their success in the following key areas:
Understand profitability and key operational metrics to develop and establish accurate and timely reporting to CEO and sponsor.
Successfully lead a conversion from QuickBooks to a new ERP system and establish a corporate trial balance in the new ERP system.
Build-out the Finance and Accounting functions.
Demonstrate ability to integrate acquisitions into the accounting/finance function of the business.
Establish and integrate a corporate payroll function.
Implement and manage the monthly close and accounting processes.
THE CANDIDATE The ideal candidate will be a hard-working, take-charge executive with excellent judgment, who thinks like an investor and is focused on successfully growing the business. The successful candidate will demonstrate the ability to work with tight deadlines without compromising quality, and must be able to effectively multi-task in a calm manner on time-sensitive, critical issues in a fast-paced environment. The successful VP Accounting candidate will have a collaborative working style to establish strong working relationships with peers as well as management in-order-to fully optimize performance, and drive the Company’s overall financial performance while treating employees with respect and professionalism.
She/he will supervise the month-end close process, accounts payable, and receivable, and all Balance Sheet account reconciliation in accordance with US GAAP. She/he will also have direct responsibility for the administration of the ERP system.
Previous experience in a private equity owned company is desired, along with a proven track record of driving process improvement in a company that is experiencing rapid growth. The VP Accounting will be a strategic leader who will enhance existing processes and internal controls within the organization.
The successful candidate will possess the business acumen and executive presence to serve as a trusted advisor and partner to the CEO, other members of the Senior Management team, as well as the Board and Sponsor.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE The ideal candidate will have a demonstrated track record as a successful finance leader in a residential/commercial services or related business. Required experience includes:
Bachelor’s degree in accounting; CPA preferred.
Services experience is highly preferred.
At least 10 years of public and private accounting experience, preferably in a complex accounting environment.
Experience building-out and/or oversight of Accounting, Finance, and Treasury.
Experience working in a business that had rigorous reporting requirements (detailed weekly, monthly and quarterly financial statements as well as operational dashboards).
Knowledge and familiarity with leveraged lending requirements, including affirmative and negative covenants, reporting, etc.
High level of skill in relevant accounting ERP software, report-writing software, Excel, and a demonstrated ability to quantify and illustrate complex financial reports, comparisons, and projections.
Strong ability to communicate technical financial matters effectively to non-financial managers.
