Job Responsibilities
Develop, organize, and implement activities to meet residents’ social, emotional, physical, and therapeutic needs within budget.
Initiate and promote activities inside and outside the facility, ensuring resident safety at all times.
Coordinate assistance for residents during activities and events as necessary.
Solicit community involvement when planning facility activities and events.
Maintain detailed records of activity programs and resident participation, tracking progress toward care‑plan goals.
Develop and distribute a monthly calendar of events.
Train volunteers and students in recreational therapy techniques.
Assist residents in organizing and maintaining an active Resident Council.
Maintain all activity‑related records required by regulations and medical records, including activity assessments, progress notes, and discharge summaries.
Qualifications
Degree or certification as a therapeutic recreation specialist or equivalent certification.
Certified Activity Director by the National Certification Council for Activity Professionals.
Two (2) years of experience in a social or recreational program within the past five (5) years, with at least one year full‑time in a resident activities program in a healthcare setting.
Prior completion of a state‑approved training course.
One (1) to two (2) years of management/supervisory experience.
Skill at working with individuals who have cognitive, physical, or sensory disabilities.
General knowledge of regulatory requirements for an activity program in a long‑term care facility.
Strong attention to detail and accuracy, excellent organizational skills with the ability to prioritize, coordinate, and simultaneously maintain multiple projects with a high level of quality and productivity.
Outstanding interpersonal skills with a high level of energy and enthusiasm.
