Chief Engineer – Hyatt Hyatt is seeking a Chief Engineer to oversee all building and grounds maintenance and renovation, manage safety and security, and lead a dedicated maintenance team.

Responsibilities

Conduct daily property walk‑throughs and visually assess the safe and efficient maintenance and operation of the hotel’s physical structure, all mechanical, electrical, HVAC systems, and other related equipment.

Arrange plans for repairs of issues discovered and verify completion of all routine maintenance on public spaces, meeting rooms, ballrooms, outlets, back‑of‑house spaces, and grounds.

Verify completion of all repairs, replacement, and renovation projects to offices and employee work areas.

Select, train, develop, supervise, and discipline department staff and all other staff under the direction of the Engineering Department and perform annual reviews on the team.

Adhere to all corporate‑required purchasing policies and controls, including outside contractor bids, budgets, and schedules.

Follow prescribed safety procedures for personnel and equipment by the company and OSHA.

Maintain effective Energy Management and Preventive Maintenance programs and conduct special training for other operating departments on the safe and efficient use of equipment and energy.

Inform General Manager and hotel department heads regularly regarding the specific and overall condition of the building structure(s), related systems, and equipment offering prudent, cost‑effective proposals for maintaining these systems.

Prepare departmental work schedules, edit punches, process payroll, and live within a budget; obtain bids for cap‑ex projects and prepare annual budgets.

Take equipment readings and samples to ensure all systems are operating correctly and take action to repair issues discovered.

Train team in making repairs throughout the building to various systems and perform general repairs and maintenance as required.

Qualifications

Five years of experience in a hotel setting is required.

Advanced knowledge of the practices relative to building and grounds maintenance.

High School education or equivalent experience; trade school experience preferred.

Strong organizational skills with attention to detail.

Ability to repair and maintain various pieces of building and grounds equipment; ability to train others in these same repairs.

Ability to operate mechanical equipment and various tools.

Ability to present technical information that requires approval.

Must have FLSD Certified License; preferably carry a Q‑01 license.

Supervision Five plus employees.

Travel Minimal local travel.

Language Skills

Ability to read and comprehend instructions, correspondence, and memos.

Ability to write professional correspondence.

Ability to effectively present to customers, clients, and others.

Tools and Equipment

Various maintenance tools.

Word and Excel proficiency.

Service Pro efficiency.

Working Environment Work environment requires spending the majority of time on feet with exposure to varying temperatures and potential hazards associated with building maintenance.

Physical Demands Must be able to lift or move 45 pounds and possess the vision abilities required to see, read, write, and use a computer.

Compensation The anticipated compensation range for the position for applicants working in NYC is $120,000 – $130,000 annually. The employer for individuals working at this location may be a third‑party management company that provides all employment benefits and obligations.
