The Opportunity As a Electrical Project Engineer you may be responsible for:
Function as a Technical Specialist or Project Lead, coordinating substation projects up to 765 kV in detailed design and EPC.
Develop protection and control design deliverables including protective relays, panel arrangements, single‑line diagrams, AC/DC schematics and relay panel wiring.
Develop physical design deliverables including yard layout plans, grounding, lightning protection, control building arrangements and auxiliary AC/DC power systems.
Perform or oversee quality review of electrical substation design packages.
Provide guidance and mentorship to junior team members.
Prepare electrical equipment specifications and Bills of Materials (BOM) for procurement and construction.
Communicate and coordinate project activities with clients, vendors, subcontractors and stakeholders.
Present proposals, designs and project activities.
Travel to project sites for design reviews, construction coordination and field verification.
Prepare and manage design budgets and schedules.
Provide support to business development or pursuit activities.
The ideal candidate will be located or willing to relocate to one of the following U.S. Eastern Region Power Offices: Ann Arbor, MI; Raleigh, NC; Atlanta, GA; Orlando, FL.
Key Responsibilities
Develop knowledge and provide guidance on design guides, standards, systems, applicable engineering codes and Black & Veatch policies.
Apply B&V quality program to assigned tasks, ensuring compliance and providing direction to others.
Prepare engineering deliverables for larger or multiple projects, research and recommend equipment and materials selection, and manage data for engineering work.
Perform engineering calculations using standard methods and principles.
Manage assigned budget, schedule and quality requirements.
Delegate tasks to lower‑level team members and review their work.
Coordinate with internal and external team members on moderately complex projects.
Assist with identification of key client interests and develop approaches to accommodate concerns on high‑voltage substation projects.
Provide support to business development or pursuit activities and engage with clients on additional services.
Preferred Qualifications
High‑voltage (HV) substation design experience – Physical and/or Protection & Controls.
Project lead and technical specialist experience overseeing utility substation clients and projects.
QA/QC reviews – Quality Assurance/Quality Checks.
Experience coordinating and communicating with clients, multidisciplinary leads and project managers.
Professional Engineer (PE) license.
Proficiency with Bluebeam Revu and Microsoft Office (Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint).
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's Degree in Engineering from an accredited program.
Minimum of 5 years of related work experience.
Work Environment/Physical Demands Hybrid or flexible work options may be offered after the first 90 days of employment based on manager discretion, job performance and work assignments.
