Senior Media Relations Manager

Job Overview This leadership role requires a public affairs or strategic communications background. The focus is on outreach activities that support federal agency clients. Ideal candidates have experience planning, executing, and overseeing press rollouts, campaigns, public affairs initiatives, and leadership support. Experience with high-level government communications and operations is highly preferred.
Key Responsibilities
Lead media relations and strategic communications initiatives for diverse agencies in public health, trade, national security, and more.
Serve as an advisor to senior federal officials and strategist to federal public affairs specialists.
Collaborate with colleagues across accounts to integrate media relations with social media, paid media, creative services, and owned media.
Manage junior staff and mentor on particular accounts.
Stay apprised of industry trends, including AI, to advise clients.
Serve as a key team member on ICF Next’s Media Relations Practice.
Qualifications
Ability to secure a public trust security clearance.
BS/BA in Marketing, PR, Communications, or related field.
Minimum of ten (10) years of experience managing public relations, media relations, or communications staff; leading strategic media-focused campaigns and initiatives and/or programmatic and external affairs activities; serving as a trusted advisor to clients or senior leadership; applying innovative techniques in media relations to generate coverage.
Knowledge of public relations, public affairs, and integrated communications.
Excellent oral communication skills.
Ability to predict and mitigate problems or conflicts.
Strong organizational and logistics skills.
Preferred: PR agency, journalism, corporate, or government agency experience; self-starter with ability to independently manage tasks and handle multiple priorities.
Job Location This position is located in ICF’s Reston, VA or Rockville, MD office in a hybrid telework arrangement. Telework outside the National Capital Region will be considered.
