L&I IT Security Senior/Specialist (Security Architect)
Position: L&I IT Security Senior/Specialist (Security Architect) –
Mid-Senior level , Full-time – Washington, WA.
About the Division and Office The Information Technology Division provides internal IT products and services to support the Department of Labor and Industries (L&I) agency business priorities. The IT Security Services (ITSS) unit protects the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of agency‑wide IT assets and data, including all critical business applications.
About the Role The Security Architect reports to the Chief Information Security Officer and supervises a team of entry‑level staff. The role provides expert‑level IT Security Architecture and organizational leadership across all security‑related domains agency‑wide. The architect guides senior management decisions and solves complex technology problems related to technology, development, and the security infrastructure of the agency.
Duties
Supervise, coach, and mentor the IT Security team, evaluating employee performance and providing growth opportunities.
Lead Information Technology security architecture: recommend appropriate security technologies and practices aligned with business and compliance requirements; develop strategic plans and target security architecture.
Conduct security and architecture reviews: create security review processes, assessments, risk analysis, and implement new technologies and solutions; plan and design security architectures under confidentiality, integrity, availability, and compliance models; describe requirements for network security, authentication, and authorization for all IT systems and data; ensure implemented solutions comply with agency and state requirements; identify security requirements based on privacy, confidentiality, and data classification.
Perform risk assessment, regulatory compliance, and policy activities: create and maintain artifacts that comprise the agency’s security program, including policies and standards; identify and document threats, attack vectors, and overall threat landscape; maintain artifacts on non‑compliant solutions and technologies.
Develop IT security strategic planning: create a strategic vision for IT security; identify missing technologies or methodologies from current IT frameworks and recommend suitable compliant solutions.
Qualifications Required
Ten (10) years of professional customer‑service focused IT experience.
Four (4) years of IT experience must include at least two (2) security focus areas: Database Security; Mainframe Security; IT Security Architecture; Application Security; Patch Management; Network Security; Desktop Security; Secure Software Development Lifecycle; Anti‑Virus/Anti‑Spam & User Provisioning/Access Control.
At least four (4) years of experience must include at least two (2) security strategic services focus areas: Security Architecture; Security Assessments; Vulnerability Scanning; IT Project Management; Security Reviews; Security Analysis; Firewall Management; Threat Management; Intrusion Detection Prevention; Security Information & Event Management.
Desired
Certifications such as CISSP, Network Security, Security+, CHE.
Knowledge of PCI, OCIO, IRS, CIS, NIST.
Experience with TOGAF and/or SABSA.
