Job Highlights
Principal advisor on Title 51 investigations.
Supervise a regional/statewide investigator team.
Conduct complex civil and criminal fraud investigations related to workers’ compensation.
Act as regional/statewide expert on investigative activities.
Responsibilities
Supervise lower‑level investigators and direct all aspects of investigation activities for the CSCPS division statewide.
Serve as principal liaison and regional expert to state and national leadership, Attorney General’s Office staff, prosecutors, auditors, revenue agents, and other stakeholders on all matters involving industrial insurance fraud, theft, or other wrongdoing.
Perform general administrative duties and ensure completion of staff work.
Plan and conduct investigations of complex civil and criminal allegations of economic‑benefit fraud by injured workers and providers, claim suppression and discrimination, and tax and premium evasion by businesses employing workers in Washington.
Investigate other significant violations under L&I’s statutory authority, including sensitive and controversial cases.
Lead and direct investigators on investigative protocols; guide surveillance activities, evidence collection, assignment referrals, monitoring investigative progress, and synthesis of investigative findings.
Provide expert consultation to claims staff, investigators, AAG’s, prosecutors, auditors, revenue agents, and others to produce effective results supporting the Fraud Prevention and Labor Standards Division.
Respond to inquiries from L&I leadership and external stakeholders as assigned.
Qualifications
Required experience:
Four years as an Investigator III within State service, with at least one year as a supervisor or lead.
OR six years as an investigator in a criminal‑justice government agency or private organization (at least four years in field experience), with at least one year as a supervisor or lead.
Qualifying investigative experience must include gathering and substantiating facts through investigative duties such as research, evidence collection, depositing statements, obtaining subpoenas, conducting field surveillance, coordinating search warrants, advising parties of constitutional rights, writing investigative reports, and testifying in court.
Valid and unrestricted driver’s license.
Two years of related college‑level coursework may be substituted for experience.
