Summary Novartis’ Global Health group is looking for a highly motivated and talented biologist to support a drug discovery program focusing on emerging viruses with pandemic potential and parasitic diseases. The successful candidate will work in a team lead by a Ph.D. level scientist and will be accountable for the design, execution and interpretation of biochemical and cellular assays to support the discovery and characterization of novel drug candidates.

Please note:

This is a short-term contract assignment, not to exceed 6 months.

Key Responsibilities

Develop and run new biochemical and cellular assays to support drug discovery efforts

Troubleshoot assays with minimal input from supervisor

Conduct mechanism of action studies

Liaise with various functions such as Protein Sciences and Medicinal Chemistry

Work with external collaborators and contract research organizations

Present findings at internal scientific meetings

Essential Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in a relevant discipline with a minimum of 2 years of experience

Extensive mammalian cell culture and molecular biology experience required

Ability to implement standard operating procedure (SOP) with minimal/no assistance

Excellent written and verbal communication skills and ability to give presentations

Critical reading of scientific journals and independently comes up with new SOP

Assist in new standard operating procedure (SOP) preparation and implementation

Highly collaborative within the team and across disciplines.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience in drug discovery industrial setting

Assay development experience
