Project Designer As a Project Designer at HPI Architecture in Newport Beach, CA, you will be an integral part of the project design team, translating complex project parameters into clear, comprehensive design solutions. You will collaborate closely with senior designers and other team members, applying strong communication, creativity, and problem‑solving abilities to meet design goals and objectives. A foundational understanding of design‑related codes and safety requirements, building systems, materials, and construction techniques is essential.

Primary Responsibilities

Business Development/Marketing: support RFQ/RFP components, prepare presentations for project pursuits, participate in project interviews, develop site capacity studies or design documents, attend industry events.

Project Set‑Up: set up project directory within F Drive, establish Revit model based on templates and project‑specific requirements, file critical correspondence with the Senior Designer and Project Manager.

Programming/Entitlement Through Jurisdictional Approvals: support development of one or more project designs from commencement through jurisdictional approval, program or site studies, space planning, interior & exterior architectural development.

Design Documents: prepare 3D renderings, animations, fly‑throughs, and schematic exhibits (site plans, floor plans, sections, elevations) using SketchUp, Revit, Lumion, Twin Motion, Enscape, AutoCAD, Adobe Suite, AI engines, energy modeling software.

Construction Administration: support the Construction Administrator as required.

Administrative: provide guidance and mentorship to junior team members, develop presentation and public‑speaking skills.

Qualifications

5‑10 years in an architectural firm.

Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Architecture from an accredited program.

DSA experience a plus.

California Architect license preferred but not required.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Establishing and articulating design concepts and vision.

Good verbal communication and presentation skills; confident in client‑facing settings.

Interior space planning.

Architectural development (elevations and design details).

Preparation of compelling client presentations.

Coordination with in‑house team members and external consultants.

Physical Standards Positions in this class are situated in a standard office environment. Other requirements include visual acuity to interpret written documentation, fine hand manipulation for handling equipment, higher‑level cognitive skills to move quickly from one task to another, and the ability to concentrate and set priorities. Ability to travel as needed for client presentations, conferences, or business development meetings.
