Assistant Professor of English, Medieval/Early Modern The Department of English at Jacksonville State University invites applications for a tenure-track position as an Assistant Professor in Medieval/Early Modern English Literature to begin Fall 2026. Main area of research should focus on the literature and languages of the British Isles pre‑1450. Willingness to collaborate with faculty in archaeology and art history is preferred. Ability to teach History of the English language and/or surveys of world literature is preferred. Ph.D. in English, with a specialty in Medieval or Early Modern English Literature, is required by August 2026.

Responsibilities The faculty member will be responsible for teaching four courses per semester, including upper‑level and graduate courses in Middle English and Early Modern Literature, as well as speech, composition, and literature surveys, according to department practice and policy. The successful candidate will also be required to conduct scholarly research sufficient for tenure and advancement, as well as engage in appropriate service.

Qualifications Ph.D. in English, with a specialty in Medieval or Early Modern English Literature, required by August 2026. Ability to teach History of the English language and/or surveys of world literature preferred. Willingness to collaborate with faculty in archaeology and art history preferred. Salary contingent upon qualifications, experience, and needs of university.
