Water Plant Utilities Crew Supervisor
provides operational, technical and maintenance support for the City's water treatment plants. Work involves supervising maintenance of a treatment plant and assigned staff, overseeing all contracted electrical, instrumentation, mechanical, plumbing, grounds and industrial process operations and repairs, and participating in capital project budgeting and construction management. Supervising paraprofessional and support staff includes training, coaching and mentoring staff, prioritizing, assigning, and directing work, conducting performance evaluations, and implementing hiring, discipline and termination procedures. Key responsibilities are monitoring and auditing work orders, scheduling assignments, researching and troubleshooting issues, and ensuring technical issues are resolved by established processes. This role identifies and prioritizes maintenance and repair projects and maintains records of work completed. About You: The ideal candidate will have a general understanding in instrumentation, electrical systems, mechanical, installation, troubleshooting and repair. Possess great leadership skills, a strong work ethic, communicates well with others, a willingness to learn, and the ability to take on challenges with a positive attitude are essential qualities for success in this role. Work Hours: Regular work hours are Monday to Friday from 7:00 am to 3:30 pm. This position manages emergency calls pertaining to the water treatment plants and remote sites and carries with it an on-call requirement, wherein Operations, or sometimes outside parties, will contact the supervisor for assistance. When contacted, the supervisor will decide what actions to take, who to call in, and whether the supervisor themselves will assist depending on the severity of the situation. On-call hours are anytime between 3:30 pm Friday to 3:30 pm Friday (24/7 call period). Duties and Responsibilities The intent of this job description is to provide a representative summary of the major duties and responsibilities performed by employees in this job. Employees may be requested to perform job-related tasks other than those specifically presented in this description. Supervises staff including conducting performance evaluations, coordinating training, and implementing hiring, discipline and termination procedures Provides supervision of maintenance and operations activities of assigned water treatment plant and remote facilities. Oversees internal and contracted electrical, mechanical, plumbing, instrumentation, grounds and industrial plant maintenance activities and ensures adherence with proper safety precautions and procedures Performs and oversees inspections, monitors equipment performance measures, reviews SCADA trends, records and reports, and monitors and maintains process control and compliance documentation Provides technical training, support and guidance related to operations and maintenance issues. Troubleshoots equipment failures and coordinates equipment repairs as needed Conducts product research and works with outside technical support services and participates in proposal/quotation request development processes Monitors spending and account allocation. Coordinates contractor services review and invoice approval, maintains adequate supplies inventory levels, and participates in capital improvement project budgeting and planning for future maintenance and construction projects Coordinates and participates in meetings to address design and construction projects. Receives status updates and provides input on future projects Typical Qualifications Education and Experience: High School diploma or G.E.D. equivalency and 5 to 7 years’ experience in water/wastewater infrastructure system maintenance and repair, project scheduling, or related work OR Any equivalent combination of training and/or experience that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities may be substituted Required Licenses or Certifications Valid North Carolina Class C Driver's License with a satisfactory driving record, or the ability to obtain within 60 days of hire C-Surface certification, or the ability to obtain one within a year of hire Seniority level
